Eurogamer.net Podcast #32

FF XIII! Video Reviews! Expo questions! Harold Shipman!

Yes, lady and gentlemen, it's time for another episode of the AWARD-NOMINATED Eurogamer Podcast. This week it's a Eurogamer Expo special, in which we put YOUR questions to event organisers Tom Champion and David Lilley. They are joined by special guest host Ellie Gibson, who only mentions FarmVille once due to recently renegotiated contractual obligations.

Stream the Eurogamer.net Podcast:

But don't think of this week's podcast as just another excuse to pimp tickets to the Eurogamer Expo, Earl's Court 1st - 3rd October tickets £8 no queues for the ladies guaranteed. David Lilley reveals what he's swapped his Angry Birds addiction for, Tom Champion gives his views on Final Fantasy XIII and Ellie makes up something about a Flash game about skiing because she's not allowed to mention FarmVille any more.

Then we discuss HOT TOPICAL ISSUES such as Pierre Molynoire's views on Kinect, Vince Zampella's whines about game reviewers, Ubisoft's hilarious DRM system and the whole APB thing.

After that it's time for Forum Affairs, where we talk about the issues surrounding video reviews and whether they're coming to Eurogamer. Plus, a hot debate over whether Harold Shipman is a good name for a dog.

During this week's Q&A session, Ellie throws YOUR Expo-related questions in the faces of David and Tom. Hear them squirm as they come under fire, scrabble for answers and try to remember what bits Rupert said they're not allowed to say yet.

Finally, for the first time ever - harmonised Hyphens!

The AWARD-NOMINATED Eurogamer.net Podcast goes live every Tuesday at 3pm UK time. Won't win.

Well that code went pretty quick!

I glanced at the title and saw Shipping Forecast. I'm not sure where but perhaps that would be a valuable service that EG could add to the podcast in the future?

the whole code bit is pointless. its snaffled by someone who cba to listen to the podcast. Also how long did ellie actually play FF13, its not as gripping as others but its better than a 6. did she even reach where it opens up?

The code should be given away at a random point in the podcast to prevent people from just scrubbing to the end.

When, exactly, does FF13 "open up"? I gave up at the 10 hour mark and would give it a 5.

Ellie should be on the podcast EVERY week. It's only funny/good when she is on it...

Tom - the bird is in his hair because his son loves chocobo, a symbol of his son if you will

@ Nick_F i think im about 30 odd hours in or something? but im slow and take my time.
  • Cheddar99 #8 2 years ago

Disagree, less Ellie please. Call me old fashioned but I like listening to people who are enthusiastic about the topic discussed, not this sarky "I don't like games, what am I like" shtick.
  • X201 #9 2 years ago

Agree with Cheddar. There are plenty of "We're teh crazeee guys" unfunny podcasts out there, a bit of humour yes, but some of the shtick is getting tiresome now.

    @Cheddar99

I agree. I think it's absolutely ridiculous Ellie is even employed at EG when she openly states she doesn't like games. Having a female presence on the site is good, but can't you employ somebody who is enthusiastic about games. I'd love to be a games journalist one day and it's hard enough getting your foot in the door without Ellie parading around saying "Games are shit, only morons like to shoot stuff in the face. I'm Karazy!". But it's who you know innit...

Conclusion - Bramwell's been at QuakeCon and GamesCom.

Suzi Perry lost her baby during pregnancy which was the reason why she was off the gadget show for a few months last year. :(

I cannot believe Ellie had the crassness to liken the Ubisoft DRM spat with apartheid in South Africa, she even laughed it off when a guest asked her who was Nelson Mandella in this conflict of hers. Way to go Ellie but I think you should reveal who these gamers are who have been beaten, killed, raped, imprisoned and treated as second class citizens by DRM supporters. C'mon girl, stick to farmville or listen to Ladies of Leet to discover how intelligent women can discourse on games.
