New id game revealed tonight
Doom 4 not a million miles away.
id Software will reveal a new game at QuakeCon tonight.
id founder and technical director John Carmack said on Twitter that id will announce a brand new game at QuakeCon, which is due to kick off at 8.30pm UK time tonight.
"I'm showing something neat and unannounced at quakecon tomorrow. Deciding if I should leave it be or sneak a little more code in..."
Elsewhere, Carmack told the Official PlayStation Magazine (reported by TVB) that Doom 4 shouldn't take as long to get out the door as its other shooter Rage is taking.
"We've got Doom 4 going on right now below our feet here," he said.
"The Doom team are all sped up and working on this technology base – I'm not really at liberty to discuss much about it, but it's going full steam ahead right now.
"It shouldn't take as long to ship as Rage. It's already in the pipeline and we feel good about it."
Rage is due out next year.
What do we know about Doom 4?
In August last year id Software boss Todd Hollenshead said the developer will talk about Doom 4 in more detail at QuakeCon 2010, so expect a proper reveal tonight.
"When we show it to you you're gonna love it," he said.
Doom 4 was first announced in 2008 when id started seeking people to begin work on it. Hollenshead has denied it would be a sequel, but said it wasn't a reboot either.
Carmack told Eurogamer that Doom 4 will be "three times" the visual quality of Rage thanks to its 30fps frame-rate (Rage runs at 60), and that it may "leverage some of the Quake Live infrastructure" for multiplayer.

The suggested that belongs to id Software or the suggested Doom 4?
And how do you triple fidelity by halfing framerate?
Wesley, thanks for editing your poor grammer and making my comment look irrelevant.

Surely that just means there is less time from development to release, not that it will come out quicker than Rage.

Although I'd love to see DOOM 4 releasing before RAGE I don't think it's going to happen.

Or is it only articles by Wesley, as the last two times I noticed this were put live by him as well.
On topic: If it's as speedy as classic Doom with crazy graphics, I'm sold.

Either way DOOM 4 please!!! Loved 3. Hope they donty listen to the hatesr & keep the old school feel still & layer even more atmosphere onto it.

Rage development started in like 2006 or even earlier...the rest is basic math

Really poor journalism on Eurogamer's side here.

It's a standard part of English grammar for dealing with speech in paragraphs. The missing closing quote just indicates that the quotation continues into the next quoted line, as spoken by the same person.

Because the rules of the language are that for paragraphs of joined speech you only keep opening them, you do not close them. It is one speech.
Means you are wrong.

And I agree with everyone saying Quake 1 was the best, it was nice and original and then they went and ruined it with Quake 2.

I think that Doom 3 was quite good, it was scary but it kept the fast paced action from the earlier games, but not as much as it isn't really that attractive to most gamers anymore, because FPS games evolved from that mechanics.
And Rage is also one of the most anticipated games of 2011 for me, and no it does not copy Borderlands (which was a crappy game btw).
As for the new game... hmmm, I would love Quake 5, a new Comander Keen... maybe a RPG game from them? Or a whole new IP... Ahhhh. Can't wait.

By all means have this lock for consoles but it would be crazy to foist it onto PC as so many people have different spec of computer.
I am looking forward to both games though... right up my street these.
