Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock dated
Activision has high hopes.
Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock will be released in the UK on 24th September, Activision has confirmed to Eurogamer.
The game will be released in North America four days later on the 28th.
"Year-to-date, the music category has been relatively quiet due in part to lack of new releases," said Activision CFO Thomas Tippl during last night's investor call.
"Warriors of Rock will be our only Guitar Hero release this year, and given its game quality and our full line-up of marketing activities, should generate consumer and retail excitement.
"This year's game will introduce for the first time a deep story mode with more challenges than ever before, rock-inspired new hardware, the ability to use your existing Guitar Hero music library and an authentic set list featuring 95 songs.
"The first million units of Warriors of Rock will be bundled and simultaneously launched with the first new Soundgarden album released in over 10 years."
Not in the UK it won't, Thomas.
"As we count down to the September 28th release, I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Microsoft for the right leadership they've been providing for the franchise, selling nearly 40 million units to date, and maintaining an incredibly high level of quality over the past few years despite a one-year development cycle, something rarely accomplished in this industry."

No, what inspires them is this:
"Warriors of Rock will be our only Guitar Hero release this year, and given its game quality and our full line-up of marketing activities, should generate consumer and retail excitement. "
Christ. Have you ever heard a more soulless and depressing line of corporate speak? That's what all Acti press releases sound like. At least EA pretend to be excited about the game itself, rather than the 'retail excitement' it might generate.
For me, Guitar Hero lost the war on DLC support. Rock Band got there sooner and better. Now I have such a massive, massive library of songs in Rock Band, that's the one that always ends up in the disc tray. Guitar Hero never really gets a look in.
When it comes to choosing between GH:WoR and RB3, I'm pretty much only going to be interested in the one that's going to support my massive, massive library of songs.

This was an investor call, not a press release. Investors aren't excited about the game, just how much money it will make, so Acvtivision talk about that instead.

Fair enough, I suppose. If I was an investor, I wouldn't be overly enthused by such a bland load of bollcoks.
Shareholders are basically the bane of this industry.

Since when have Microsoft produced Guitar Hero? I think it's supposed to be Neversoft.

Having only just got into this whole RB/GH stuff, i have to say GH was poor, and RB was pretty good. With the added benefit of a keyboard/guitar improvements from RB, i cannot see how GH will even make a dent in sales (and its not releasing at the best of times either).

Lots of people don't like drunken karaoke style parties (I am one) so I think Guitar Hero still has a niche to fill.
(Also, the guitar parts on Rock Band are ridiculously easy on medium. As a casual player that never progressed to the 5-button difficulty, this put me off RB too.)

Actisoft and Eaony it seems as of late.

RB lost that altogether. I don't care about keyboards or real instruments or a 'deep' story mode. Just fix the difficulty curve.
