Xbox One controller remapping coming for all pads soon

Background music feature waiting for "prioritisation".

All Xbox One pads will soon feature remappable controls, Microsoft has said.

I mean, it's really nice. But £129?

The feature is currently limited to the lovely but pricey Xbox One Elite controller, which costs a wallet-busting £129.

The Elite pad has the luxury of various extra triggers on the controller's reverse side, but remappable controls need not require extra buttons. For example, the PlayStation 4's DualShock 4 allows for remappable controls as standard.

Happily, Xbox exec Mike Ybarra has confirmed that the feature will soon become standard for Xbox pads too.

"It's coming for all controllers soon," Ybarra revealed via Twitter last night.

Background music is another much-requested feature for Xbox One - something that owners have asked for ever since the console launched nearly two years ago (and another feature that PS4 now has).

Writing on Twitter last week, Xbox boss Phil Spencer promised the feature was still on the drawing board - but was lower down the list of priorities than other additions.

"This one is just a prioritisation thing with other work," Spencer explained. "We like the feature. It's in the list of things we want to do, just behind other work we are doing right now."
