Layton dev Level-5 shows off new 3DS game The Snack World

Dubbed trailer points to international launch for new cross-media franchise.

Yesterday, Professor Layton and Ni No Kuni developer Level-5 revealed an extended glimpse at The Snack World - a new 3DS and smartphone project that will be supported by a range of spin-off media.

Today, Level-5 has released an English-language dub of its trailer, suggesting that the studio has wider launch plans for the series outside its native Japan.

The Snack World stars a band of three friends in a fantasy universe inhabited by dragons and (for some reason) the Greek goddess Medusa.

Level-5 will support the upcoming 3DS, iOS and Android games with a range of NFC toys that unlock new items, plus a manga and 3D animation.

From the trailer below it's clear that Level-5 has sunk a good deal of money into launching the IP. Crank the video up to HD and the trailer looks good enough to be made from physical models.

Level-5 has already confirmed that its huge-selling Yokai-Watch franchise will get a European localisation. The second title in that series, released for 3DS in Japan, was the country's largest game release in 2014.
