Piranha Bytes and Nordic Games have announced an "edgy, dark, uncompromising [and] complex" open-world role-playing game called ELEX for PC and "current gen consoles". It's due out winter 2016/2017.
Gothic 3 scored only 8/10 because developer JoWooD "forced" the game's release when it was "not ready", developer Piranha Bytes has revealed to Eurogamer.
JoWooD has told Eurogamer that a patch to fix buggy Gothic 3 expansion Forsaken Gods will arrive "within this year", although it has been nearly two weeks since the original and quite severe problems were reported.
JoWooD has publicly apologised for the mountains of bugs in Gothic 3 expansion Forsaken Gods.
Emergency patches have been released on the official website and the publisher plans to use community feedback to bulk out a subsequent update.
"JoWooD Productions would like to present their apologies to the fans for releasing an unsatisfying game," said a statement on German website PC Games (via the JoWooD forum).
Update: JoWooD has explained to Eurogamer that Arcania: A Gothic Tale (Gothic 4) has yet to be given a date, and revoked the "late 2009" line a spokesperson from the publisher had recently given us.
JoWooD plans to release a Gothic 3 expansion in Q4 this year.
Dubbed Forsaken Gods, it promises to answer all sorts of outstanding questions and act as a "seamless step" to Gothic 4.
The publisher also insisted that it will be watching the forums closely to try and incorporate your ideas, so put on your robe and wizard hat and get thinking.
