Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered now has supply drops

And a shovel.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered now has supply drops.

The supply drops arrive as part of the game's December update. Right now, they contain only cosmetic items, and all items that can be earned in supply drops can also be obtained via challenges.

The supply drops are unlocked with Call of Duty Points, which you buy with real world money, and with Depot Credits, which are earned through playing.

Modern Warfare Remastered now also has Parts, the equivalent of Infinite Warfare's Salvage. This is used to craft items found in supply drops.

The loot drop is called Operation Arctic Wolf, and in it are new weapon camos, reticles, combat uniforms, emblems, calling cards and brand-new characters. The brand-new characters bit adds women soldiers to Infinity Ward's seminal shooter for the first time. Also new are melee weapons, such as a shovel.

Supply drops began life with 2014's Advanced Warfare. They returned in Black Ops 3 and this year's Infinite Warfare, so perhaps it was inevitable that they would eventually turn up in Modern Warfare Remastered.

Meanwhile, all the remaining original Modern Warfare maps are now in Remastered (it launched with 10). So, today there are six new maps (Bloc; Showdown; Pipeline; Countdown; Wet Work; and Strike), as well as two new gameplay modes (Gun Game and Hardpoint). There's also Winter Crash, a Christmas-themed version of Crash. The original Winter Crash was PC only, so this marks its console debut.

Here's developer Raven Software on the additions:

"Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered is a game we want players to be engaged in for a long time. We're excited to support this great game with new content, beginning today with a ton of new customisation items that allow for a level of personalization that wasn't possible in the original release in 2007.

"Personalisation is a big part of Call of Duty and something we've done in the series for a while now that fans really enjoy. But of course, we've done it very carefully as our highest priority is to retain the balance, aesthetics and player silhouettes in the game."
