Single format "impossible" - Squenix boss

But he likes digital distribution.

Last week saw God of War and Calling All Cars developer David Jaffe arguing for a unified gaming standard on his blog, but this week's talking head - Square Enix president Yoichi Wada - isn't so impressed.

"Speaking as a software manufacturer it would be convenient for us, obviously, if everybody was to standardise," Wada told

"But that kind of standardisation would be impossible, in my opinion. I would like it to happen, but there's not much chance."

Wada's a bit more upbeat about digital distribution, of which he says, "I'm sure that in ten years time it will be the main way games are experienced", even if physical games will "never" die out.

Elsewhere in the interview, Wada also talks about Square Enix's polymorphic content strategy, including this brilliant description: "We wrack our brains for what might sell and what might not, but it's very difficult to hit the jackpot, as it were. Once we've hit it, we have to get all the juice possible out of it." Have fun with that!
