Now we know why 2008 role-playing game The Last Remnant was removed from Steam: it's being remastered for PlayStation 4.

The remaster brings the game onto Unreal Engine 4, and apparently looks pretty swish. There's no footage in the announcement trailer to judge this by, annoyingly, but there are screenshots to see.

The Last Remnant Remaster will be released 6th December for the budget price of 16/€20.

The Last Remnant was never originally released for PlayStation - which meant PS3 back in 2008. Instead it launched on Xbox 360, and PC thereafter. A lot of the beef people had with the game around release was for technical reasons - long loading times and messy presentation - which means, encouragingly, a technical upgrade could eradicate this.

Then again, the pacing was also off and there was too much wandering around, according to Keza, who wrote our review of The Last Remnant. Still, underneath it all was an engrossing, tactical combat system - maybe with a few other improvements it will finally shine.
