Capcom's Mega Man X Legacy Collection launches in July

Coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Capcom has announced its new Mega Man X Legacy Collection, which includes all eight mainline Mega Man X titles, coming to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch on July 24th.

Mega Man X started life on the Super Nintendo in 1993, with later entries appearing on the likes of Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and PlayStation 2. The X series offers a slightly darker tone compared to the original Mega Man games, expanding their classic platform action with various new abilities, such as wall jumps and slides.

As was the case with the Mega Man Legacy Collection, Capcom has, for reasons unexplained, elected to split the included games across two distinct volumes. Mega Man X, X2, X3, and X4 will be released under the guise of the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 1, while X5, X6, X7, and X8 will feature in the Mega Man X Legacy Collection 2.

All games include optional smoothing and CRT filters, and can be played at original resolution, in full screen mode while preserving the aspect ratio, or in widescreen mode.

Both collections will feature vintage game trailers, art, and a look at the extensive range of merchandise that Mega Man X has inspired over the years. They also contain The Day of Σ, a video originally included with Maverick Hunter X that sets the scene for the X games.

Additionally, both volumes will include the full original soundtrack for each of their respective games, as well a selection of remixes and brand-new tracks. The latter are used as part of the new leaderboard-enabled X Challenge mode, pitting players against pairs of Mavericks.

"Take three weapons with you into battle, or defy the odds with a buster only run!", explains Capcom's announcement post, "Even the most die-hard X fans will have their skills put to the test, and even the least threatening Mavericks can surprise you when they're teamed up together. Are you an S-Class Maverick hunter?".

Both volumes of the collection will available digitally on PS4, Xbox One, Switch and PC, come July 24th, and will be priced at $19.99 USD each. In North America only, consoles will also receive a $39.99 USD physical release. For Xbox One and PlayStation 4, this includes both volumes, each on a separate disc, while the Switch bundle features a cartridge containing the first collection and a digital download code for the second.
