Dreadbit has announced its next game, Seraph, ahead of its launch on Early Access next month.
Described as a "skill-based, acrobatic shooter", Seraph is a 2D side scroller in which the player isn't in charge of the shooting. The game handles that itself with continuous auto-aiming, leaving the player to concentrate solely on evading damage and survival.
Seraph also does something interesting when it comes to difficulty, which keeps visibly ticking upwards in the bottom left of the screen.
"If you start taking damage at regular intervals," explained designer, Daniel Leaver, "the game assumes you've hit your current ability level and slows the difficulty rise. The higher the difficulty, the better the drops and crafting loot."
Combine that with procedural levels and random pick-ups, weapons and enemies, and it sounds like Seraph is going to feel pretty different with each playthrough. I'm not entirely sure what to make of it just yet, but it's at Rezzed next week, so hopefully I'll get a chance to find out.
