Watch: Brutal survival horror game Noct in action

Hello darkness, my old friend.

With Halloween looming large on the horizon, there's really no better time to sink your fangs into a scary game or two. That's why I finally decided to give top-down survival horror game Noct a go.

Noct, which recently launched on Steam's early access program, plays out through the eye of a distant thermal imaging camera; think helicopter footage from police shows like Road Wars and you're there. It's a unique visual twist in a genre that normally employs first or third person viewpoints to ratchet up the tension and bring you face-to-face with your fears.

Despite the distance, watching the action through the eyes of a far-off observer doesn't do much to calm your nerves and, when combined with the haunting soundtrack, it can still deliver a surprise jump scare or two. Or, in my case, six.

While I can safely say that Noct, in its current state, certainly has potential and a wonderfully creepy atmosphere, it's not without its fair share of problems. If you'd like to learn more, why not check out my Let's Play video? I've helpfully embedded it just below.
