Maia just got standalone scenario missions

And new and improved chickens.

Maia, the colony-building sci-fi game, just got a big update.

Maia 0.51 adds three new standalone scenario missions as well as game balance changes, bug fixes and more complex chicken AI. There's improved performance for Windows 64bit users, too. (The patch notes in full are over on Steam.)

Creator Simon Roth told Eurogamer the standalone missions are designed to flesh out Maia's lore, and amount to several hours of single-player content. There's an orbital crisis in Cassiopeia, an arctic winter in The Twilight Zone, and an equatorial jungle on SN1572 to content with.

Roth runs through the changes in a playthrough of one of the new standalone missions, below. We also see the upgraded chickens, which now have their own wants and needs. Chickens will feed, socialise and lay. Nice chickens!

Maia has been on Steam as an Early Access title since December 2013.
