Bloodborne developer From Software has hinted at a procedurally-generated area in its upcoming Souls series successor.

"Deep under the city of Yharnam lies an expansive network of multi-levelled ruins, seemingly much older than Yharnam itself and crafted by something other than human hands. What's more, these ruins appear differently to each hunter brave enough to enter," said SCEJ producer Masaaki Yamagiwa on the PlayStation Blog. "We're all very excited to talk more about what that means in just a few weeks."

That's not the only thing From Software unveiled about Bloodborne. It also showed off a handful of new environments, monsters and weapons.

First off, there will be an "eyeball-collecting old witch," which is incidentally my favourite kind of witch, lording over Hemwick Graveyard. There's also Gyula, an "old veteran hunter" who ventured into the old part of Yharnam and hasn't been seen in ages. Naturally this means you're sure to encounter him. But will he be friend of foe?

Other cool new details include the newly revealed Cainhurst castle - a remote mansion whose wealthy family of inhabitants vanished without a trace - and the transforming cain, a weapon that morphs from a sturdy stick to a bladed whip at the touch of a button.

Bloodborne is due exclusively on PS4 on 27th March.
