Wing Commander 3 starred Mark Hamill, Malcolm McDowell and John Rhys-Davies.

The 1994 dogfighting space sim is the latest On The House promotion by the publisher. This means that the freebie will eventually be replaced by something else, but so long as you download it to your account, you'll be able to access it anytime in the foreseeable future.

"Our goal is to provide a great gaming experience and a way to discover awesome new games," explained EA. "Having a game in your library, for free, is a fantastic way to see what Origin is all about."

Previous On the House titles have included Plants vs. Zombies, Dead Space and Peggle.

The Wing Commander series was created by Chris Roberts, who has since gone on to work on Star Citizen, the most successful video game crowdfunding campaign of all-time. Its current tally of pledges is just over $49 million.

In other EA freebie news, the publisher has created a free trial version of last year's SimCity reboot.

This trial allows you to play the game for four hours. After that you can purchase the full game and continue your progress from where you left off.
