Japan chart: Vita crawls past 500k mark

3DS continues to dominate.

The PlayStation Vita recorded its lowest sales figures to date last week in Japan, though it has now passed the 500,000 mark.

Sony's new handheld sold 18,361, down from 42,915 the week prior. That put it in fourth place in the hardware chart, with 3DS in first, PlayStation 3 second and PSP third.

It was a slow week all round, with the Christmas/New Year sales bump finally winding down. The 3DS sold 100,668 to take the top spot, down from 240,819 last week.

Also worthy of note - the PlayStation 2 recorded its lowest weekly sales ever. Is Sony's hard-to-kill platform finally heading towards extinction?

The software chart saw of handful of new entries. Namco's PSP mech battler Super Robot Wars OG Saga: Masou Kishin II - Revelation of Evil God entered at number one, shifting 81,896 copies.

3DS Fatal Frame franchise spin-off Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir debuted at number seven, while Ace Combat: Assault Horizon Legacy entered at nine.

Six out of the top ten titles were for 3DS and 15 out of the top 20 were for Nintendo platforms.
