WOW regional finals dated, detailed
Best of the West. With video.
Blizzard has announced that the regional World of Warcraft 3v3 Arena and Warcraft III finals will be held in Cologne, Germany between 26th and 28th June.
The top teams from both Europe and North America will compete for a place at the global finals, which take place at BlizzCon 2009 in Anaheim, California on 21st and 22nd August. Korean and Taiwanese teams will meet them there.
Two WOW teams will emerge victorious from the regional finals, earning USD 15,000 and USD 6000 in the process. We're not sure how much the Warcraft III teams get. Last year's photo shows USD 10,000 as the top prize.
The overall global winner will receive USD 25,000. Gosh.
Spectators, friends, family or even fans are welcome to attend for free. World of Warcraft expansion Wrath of the Lich King and beta versions of StarCraft II will be open for all to play.
Head over to the official site for videos of last year's regional final. Those players are bloody good.

I would imagine I would have the same trouble watching a starcraft match or counter strike round.

I remember playing Season 3 arena on Cyclone EU BG, which was then the strongest in Europe and arguably the world. Got to 1900 rating despite being in mostly blue gear as a shaman and in a team that was just randomly put together. It ain't hard to do well if you put some time in to get the gear and pick a meta build. Especially not compared to Guild Wars GVG which even as another fantasy game was just on another level in terms of demands for teamwork, tactics as well as individual fast reactions and decision making.

That's hardly the epitome of skill either to be honest.

You can literally say that about any game -- esport or otherwise. From StarCraft to CSS.
