Wii Sports 2 was Japan's June best-seller

Even though it was only released on 25th.

Wii Sports Resort is already a huge hit in Japan, racking up more than 350,000 sales in less than a week on sale.

It topped the Enterbrain software chart for June, despite only being released on the 25th. Wii Sports Resort outsold the runner-up, Kingdom Hearts DS, by more than two-to-one. Nintendo also managed to shift 296,000 standalone Motion Plus accessories during the month.

Here's that June top ten in full, complete with sales figures:

  7. Dynasty Warriors 6 Empires (PS3): 49,059
  8. Infinite Space (DS): 48,397
  9. Atelier Rorona (PS3): 47,456
  10. Ken to Mahou to Gakuen Mono 2 (PSP): 45,282

    I'm not sure this 'Wii' business is going to catch on. Maybe in Godless countries such as Japan, but I can't imagine this outselling Keith Chegwin's Key Part 5 over here.

    IGN Austrailia gave this game a disappointing 6.5 but it'll sell shitloads regardless of the quality anyway.

    Not very surprising; I imagine this will sell upwards of ten million over the next two years or so.

    Cannot wait for this. The only thing that is bugging me is that I need an extra M+ to play multiplayer. It will be worthed though.

    My friend already has one of the other sports games that come with it, and when Wii Sports 2 comes out, both of us will likely buy it, so we'll end up with 3 WM+'s between the two of us and we haven't even bought any separate. The "OH NOES I GOTTA BUY 4 WIIMOTES, 4 NUNCHUKS AND 4 WM+ THINGS" you see on the internet bugs me. It's like the Crystal Chronicles debacle all over again, "I have to buy 4 link cables and 4 GBA's now". Ugh.

    Several previews I've read have been lack-lustre about it. Dunno, like others, I will have a read around when the reviews come out. Although I can't see myself not buying it TBH.

    This is a game which will review badly, but the majority will love - so for these types of games I tend to prefer user reviews over professional reviews. Since the Xbox Live era, professional reviewers seem to be unable to cope with the idea that a game could be designed for local multiplayer specifically. If it has no online multiplayer, it has to be a single player game or else it's a bad game - which isn't true at all, and online multiplayer isn't right for every single multiplayer game out there.

    A seemingly mediocre game sells millions of copies off the back of Nintendo's clever marketing. It's Wii Play all over again.

    Cannot wait for this. The only thing that is bugging me is that I need an extra M+ to play multiplayer. It will be worthed though.

    There are already two fantastic games bundled with M+ (Tiger Woods and Grand Slam), so that softens the blow a bit as I have one by default already.

    Yeah I cant say I am excited by this game, not sure if I will get it for the kids or not yet... but I also think it will go on to sell millions.

    The great thing about the original Wii Sports was that it was free with the console so it didn't matter that it was little more than an expanded tech demo rather than a fully developed game, you could overlook the niggles and shallowness.

    The sequel is going to cost money though, likely £30+, so it has to be a hell of a lot better for that reason. From what I read in the IGN Australia review, it sounds like the game isn't that great, that only a handful of games are actually good and fun, the rest are filler. As it stands I can't see myself buying this game at all.

    In one of the IGN podcasts it said several IGN editors where of the opinion that Sports Resort table tennis was the best game on Wii.... full stop.

    Define "quality".

    So the hardcore gaming press who are more used to reviewing fps games, didnt like it. That's akin to asking someone who mainly only reviews arthouse movies to review the latest action flick. Or someone who reviews indie music to review the latest (i dunno) jonnas brother album.

    He's not going to enjoy it - but the majority will.

    It has NOTHING to do with "quality"
