Warriors Orochi 2 to get sequel
It's coming to Europe this autumn.
Koei has announced a sequel to Warriors Orochi is coming to PS2 and Xbox 360 this autumn.
The first game, you may recall, saw the Serpent King Orochi kidnapping both the dynasty warriors and samurai warriors, who ultimately defeated him. Warriors Orochi 2 follows the adventures of a new group of fighters as they attempt to stop him making a comeback.
It'll feature several storylines, including ones set in the kingdoms of Wu, Wei and Shu and one which will reveal some of the Serpent King's secrets. There's also a Dream mode that'll have a separate plot.
Other new features will include a two-player Versus mode with four different types of match, including Tag Team. There will be more than 90 playable fighters including new ones based on characters from Chinese and Japanese history.
The announcement comes as Koei reveals more than 1.5 million copies of Warriors Orochi have now been sold. The game was released on PS2 and Xbox 360 last year, with PC and PSP versions following a few months later. Read Dave's review to find out why he thought it fell a little short.
Here's hoping the sequel shakes things up a bit when it's released in Europe this September.

Anyway, I loves me some Warriors action so I'm looking forward to this. Although I would've prefered Orochi: Empires.

It's more the fact that it's a "greatest hits" of the Dynasty and Samurai Warriors series', plus you can merge weapons to create super weapons, and have special optional objectives that power up things like your charge attack level. Plus you have 4 attack buttons so there is depth if you want it, but Square on it's own will still do it
You also get to take 3 characters into battle and switch whenever you like. All in all, if you want a Warriors game it's probably the best one to have in your collection, plenty of characters and factions.

I'm playing the PSP version at the moment and it's very good, nice and bashy with a great weapon fusing system. My only word against it is that by giving you three characters you somehow feel obligated to use them all during a battle, even the wanky ones.
I'm currently knocking seven shades of shitzu out of everyone with a red bar as Sun Ce, who's excellent, unfortunately he's tag-teamed with a pair of SW sluggers that are not much fun.
Why no PS3 version I wonder?

I'm guessing Koei didn't want to port the 360 version of WO to PS3, probably since you can just play the PS2 version anyway. They seem to only be releasing ones you can't play with backwards compatibility, which is crazy considering new PS3s don't have it.

Where now for the franchise I wonder? Surely DW7 would be yet another re-telling of the three kingdoms saga and even I'm not enamoured enough to want that. The Orochi side story is far too silly to make a decent dynasty (sorry) of it's own.

Especially with the empires series; Imagine having the basic Empires format, but each piece of land was owned by another player - And if you wanted to take that piece of land, you'd have to fight them; They'd have to be present.
