WarHawk Euro date still TBC News

PlayStation 3 News by Robert Purchese

6 August, 2007

Sony UK has remained quiet about when we'll see WarHawk in Europe and how much it will cost here.

It follows earlier confirmation from official US PlayStation blog, which announced the game would be released over there on 28th August.

The "premium" Blu-ray version will cost you USD 59.95 and will come with extra video content, a Bluetooth headset and a manual - apparently that's important. Alternatively you can buy exactly the same game without those trimmings on the PlayStation Network for USD 39.95.

Those of you in the US have already had the chance to play WarHawk thanks to an open beta test, which saw trigger-happy participants pump in over 30 hours game time each. Because of this, Sony will be trawling the data collected to find the top 100 players, who will get some artwork and a special broach. Badge. Pin. Whatever you call it.

Sony Europe also had nothing to offer over the recent delay of Lair in the US, which was pushed back from 14th August to 4th September there. Hopefully that means it won't affect us.

WarHawk is due for release in Europe later this year.

Head over to our WarHawk gamepage to see what we're all so excited about.

Ooooh that's more expensive that I was expecting... I reckon that's a £50 boxed games and a £30 (at UK prices!!!) download then, much more than what people are used to paying for downloadable games. I was honestly expecting it to be no more than £30 on BD and cheaper still as a download.

The top 100 players get the badge I think, not the top 1. And I think this may be a simultaneous worldwide release.

I thought this was only an online game now? Seems a bit steep they are charging full wack for only half the original game.

It's now a fully fledged online game though, it wouldn't have been if it was both SP and MP. Besides, the game itself is $40, all the extras are the extra $20. I'll be getting the download.

"Alternatively you can buy exactly the same game."

So that's not 'half the original game'.

So we can import?

Or will the game load and there would be no EU servers we can access.

I have absolutely no idea what you mean....

I meant the fact that it used to be a SP/MP game and now is only MP...

@lambtron - What you're saying now though, is that the MP from before, is the same as the MP now, it's not the case. It's also not the case that they're charging "full-whack". That would be shadowrun.

I don't think this game has worldwide servers. Either way, you'll be categorised as a US citizen. I'd just be patient and wait for the Euro version.

Yeah at first I thought it was a joke account but when he started speaking because he had a headset I thought Oh shit it's THE Kaz Hirai.

That or the joke character is the best impressionist in the universe.

If the download version is £20 it'll be very tempting for me, £30 and I'll be waiting for reviews, and hoping for a demo.

I think it was sounded like him over voice chat but I will check the site anyway.

It was mentioned that someone took his name when he tried to sign up so there might be two registered and he had a circle next to his name probably to highlight the point.

I wonder if they have a block next to their name that they're developers because I ran into quite a few...

What is all this "half the original game" business? With all games you pay for the entertainment experience that you get. The development history of the title means nothing to any of us.

You seem to be valuing the game based on some previous concept of what the full game is or was. And then apparently being disappointed because you aren't getting something you have somehow decided you should have got. Isn't that a little bit like feeling less happy with your bag of sweets purely someone else apparently has a bigger bag than you (although in this case, it actually more a case of hearing about a larger bag of sweets, which in the end no one got)?

Is the game that is getting released worth £20-30? That is the only question anyone need really concern themselves with surely. Anything else might be meanly described as a bit childish.

with "worldwide" I mean that it probably will not be any restrictions based on either hardware or software. at least that is what I understood Incog meant.
