WAR patch 1.2 goes live next week

It's getting a price cut in Europe, too.

In its latest newsletter to players, Mythic has announced that Patch 1.2 for Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning will go live on 3rd March - that's next Tuesday. The game is also being halved in price in Europe.

The sizeable patch will include the new Dwarf Slayer and Orc Choppa careers; the Bitter Rivals live event; a limited preview of a new Scenario; improvements to realm-versus-realm warfare, itemisation, crafting, and the user interface; more "easy" public quests for smaller group sizes; and over 500 bug fixes.

Patch 1.2 kicks off the Call to Arms "live expansion" that will be released in chunks over the next few months. Monthly live events will be followed by the release of the Land of the Dead zone in June.

Additionally, WAR's European publisher GOA announced that the price of the game is to be cut in Europe. The Standard Edition will be available for a recommended price of GBP 19.99 / EUR 29.99 from retailers or as a digital download soon (the date will vary by country).

My starter month finishes in 3 days. Shame. I think I'll re-sub in a month or so, to avoid the initial in-flux of those new classes.

You wont if they steal a months subs from you after you tell them that you dont want recurring billing.
  • DFawkes #3 3 years ago

They don't have any of my details, they can't steal a months sub. Thankfully.

They could do with dropping the euro sub price a bit too tbh, or getting the recruit a friend thing working on this side of the pond. Bit nuts that the americans have it (And will soon be getting some nice incentives to do so too) but we still haven't heard a peep about it...

Indeed, a price drop and expansion are a start, but of all the MMOs I've subbed to, they all had one thing in common - trials. I would've bought WAR a lot soon if I could've tried it first.
  • porkman #6 3 years ago

You can buy this already for £10 if you look around.

I got it for £10 from play.com around Christmas so there might still be chances to find it at a bargain price. With that said, I didn't resub after the first month was over and I don't think I will either.
  • DFawkes #8 3 years ago

Play.com has it at £10. Still, I tried WoW for free.

Good MMO, for those considering it. Still going through "balancing" and such, but it's a nice change of pace from WoW. Obviously more PvP (or RvR) oriented, which is not a bad thing. :)
  • Zeali #10 3 years ago

Love the game. Been playing since launch. PvE isn't that great but oRvR makes up for it big time.
  • spammage #11 3 years ago

Misleading. The initial box price is irrelevent tbh, the fact is that WAR still costs more on a monthly basis than WOW, which is a problem position to be in ie being more expensive and offering less than competitors.
  • Seafort #12 3 years ago

Actually i pay the same price per month as i did in WoW. Maybe its different in rest of EU/US but in UK its the same at £8.99.
  • zecker #13 3 years ago

Is it still all about trading keeps or is there actual oRvR (fighting players not npcs!) now?

Lower tiers it's still mostly NPCs, but when it occasionally gets busy, it gets really busy all at once! I went on for a couple of captures on tier 1, ended up going back and forth hunting Chaos.

It's rare to get it that populated though, onlt saw it twice in my 28 days - the bastards cut off my last 2. They better give them back, or I ain't subbing.
  • Nill #15 3 years ago

Gah, why the fuck were GOA placed in charge over the EU-version? I often think about resubbing, but am scared away every time by the poor management of the EU-version. The thought of giving GOA any of my details scares me even further away.

Eurogamer should ask these questions when there's live-chat events and the like, as well as why there's so many services that are available for the game in the US but not in the EU. But obviously, they are too busy arse-licking any and every company they can, to ask anything that might possibly upset or corner them in the slightest.

Regards the price of this failing MMO. ( Yes, it's failing, maybe not enough to close it, but subs are dropping off monthly ).

It's £8.99 PLUS VAT, making it around £10.50 per month
My idea to resolve MMOs that start to fail

Make the MMO £4.99 per month inclusive of VAT and....

also put in a micro transaction model for those that don't want to fully sub.

The benefits to the £4.99 player ? Well he can still buy the micro transaction stuff, but at a quarter of the price.

The micro transaction only player has to pay full price for each transaction.

SO, the subscriber wants to buy a micro transaction thats lasts an hour and gives plus 20 percent XP? As he subscribes, it only costs him 50 pence.

The person who does not subscribe and wants plus 20 percent XP for an hour has to pay £2.00.

It seems so obvious, why shackle your players to an expensive monthly fee that only 1 game in recent history deserves ? ( WoW and prior to WoWs release the original Everquest ). As if you are paying lots of cash for a game , you feel obligated to play it. And in many cases this probably leads to resentment because you want to play others too, something has to give, and it's usually the new comer MMORPG trying to gain a foot hold.

Such an easy and obvious solution
