Wallace and Sonic on XBLA tomorrow
Also, Puzzle Quest discounted for Goldies.
Major Nelson has confirmed that tomorrow's Xbox Live Arcade releases will be Wallace & Gromit Episode 2 and Sonic & Knuckles. Ampersand city.
The second part of Wallace & Gromit's Grand Adventures, titled The Last Resort, will set you back 800 points (£6.80 / €9.60). Check out our review of part one to get an idea what to expect from the episodic Telltale romp.
Meanwhile, 400 points (£3.40 / €4.80) will nab you the XBLA version of SEGA's 1994 Megadrive platformer Sonic & Knuckles.
Also worthy of note on the XBLA Marketplace this week is a week-long 50 per cent discount for Gold Live members on the puzzle RPG classic, Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords. You can now pick it up for 400 points - that's actually a third of the original 1200 point asking price.
Read our review of the PSP and DS original to find out why it's subsequently been released on every format ever, including the 3DO and the Atari Jaguar. Probably.

Sonic & Knuckles
(as the text clearly spells).
Sonic 3 is already available.

No! Its Sonic & Knuckles. Can nobody read these days?

That wasn't a huge issue for Sonic 3, but if there's no level select here they've pretty much ruined the game. You NEED to be able to go back to get all the emeralds, not to mention the fun of just being able to replay the game with Hyper Sonic unlocked from the start.

It doesn't really matter now, does it? You can save Sonic 3 anywhere; replay; do whatever.

Save states don't allow you to go back with Chaos Emeralds in hand.

Most people actually pay for the gaming services and such that Live has to offer, and discounts like this are a happy extra. I can't imagine anyone would pay for Live solely to get money off random games, as unless you end up buying everything they discount it's probably not worth the subscription.
I like these sales as I feel as if I'm getting something back from subscribing. I pay for Live regardless of deals like this, so when a game I want appears for half price it's a great opportunity to save some points.
I'm not sure I can resist an 800 point discount on Puzzle Quest though, despite my reservations about its mechanics.

Agreed. Sonic CD should definently get an XBLA release too btw.

But yeah, having Sonic CD come sometime later would be great too.

Me! For the single reason I've never played Sonic CD. :}

Sonic CD's nice to have from a completionists perspective, but it sits in between Sonic and Sonic 2 chronologically, and seems more like an advert for the Mega CD than a serious or groundbreaking Sonic sequel.
In terms of quality, it'd say it's not as good as either Sonic or Sonic 2. The level design is awful. Too much stopping and faffing. The end of zone bosses are very poor, and the game is much too easy.
It does have some great gameplay ideas and some snazzy graphics, though. It's a cool game. The bonus stages could have been great, but they're way too jerky and fiddly to control - considering I was playing Mario Kart on my cousin's SNES in the years before picking this up. It's still a great candidate for an XBLA release, however, as all of the Sonic games were much better than most other platform games by default.
Sonic 3 & Knuckles combined is a fantastic example of the 90s platform game. It's marvellous. If you've not played Sonic 3, or Sonic & Knuckles, then wait and play them combined.
Excellent games.

I found exactly the same thing, really put me off the game as I thought not being able to get any emeralds would make it boring....
I must have kept trying the first stage in the bottom left corner of the first act though around 15 times then it suddenly clicked - you need to push the analogue stick whichever way you want to move quite firmly and allow for a slight lag to the movement applied to your character on the screen (i.e. move the direction before you get to the end of a square on the sphere).
Worked well.
