UK charts: Wii Fit on top yet again News

Wii News by Robert Purchese

27 April, 2009

Nintendo's Wii Fit tops the UK All-Formats chart for the 13th time this week, edging closer to the 18-week all-time record set by Who Wants to be a Millionaire? in 2001.

That pace is too quick for the only newcomer, Chronicles of Riddick: Assault on Dark Athena, which enters the chart at two. The Godfather II and FIFA 09 drop a place to accommodate Atari's new release, but otherwise the top 10 is unchanged.

There's a fair amount of reshuffling out of the limelight, however, culminating in the disappearance of Wanted: Weapons of Fate after a month on sale.

We should see a new champion next week as X-Men Origins: Wolverine - and the film that it's tied to - launch across the country.

I genuinely do not understand how everybody who wanted to buy Wii Fit doesn't have it yet.
Surely sales are going to drop soon? Is there some new software out for the balance board or something, or does every kid in a family need a balance board each?
It makes no sense to me.

This is probably due to the carefully orchestrated 'supply problems' last year.

WiiFit will have a larger install base than the PS3 soon, if it doesn't already.

ah 2001, the last stand. the days when quality hardcore gaming succesfully fought off the horrible casuals from invading our hobby for 18 hard fought weeks with the grand 'Who Wants to be a Millionaire?'

That should give some of the Wii bashers food for thought.

People seem to think Wii Fit will make them super fit/trim - it doesn't - go do some real exercise and dieting and then the results will show. Got friends that bought Wii fit and use it a couple of times, then never bother with it again (just like many games on Wii!).

Dear god no.

Wii fit is not a game. Please include sales of Windows Vista in future charts, pretty much the only thing that can shake that pointless peripheral for fat lazy bastards who balk at the thought of actually going to the gym or doing any real exercise.

Wii Fit is a game.

It's just not a very good one, in the classical sense. But a game, it is. I bought it and have played it for maximum 3 hours. Then got bored. My guess is that the majority of people that have bought this are in the same situation.

Wii Fit is more like an interactive Jane Fonda workout video if you ask me. My parents have it, I've seen them using it and it looks absolutely no fun whatsoever which contradicts my definition of what a game is. My guess is that it's selling so well because people don't see it as a game but rather as something useful that helps keep them fit. That's exactly the reason my parents bought it and why they prefer playing only sports games on the Wii because they think it helps keep them active.
