UK charts go gaga for Just Dance

Ubisoft's budget Wii game on top again.

Ubisoft's budget Wii party game Just Dance has hopped to the top of the UK all-formats Top 40 again.

Last week's leader, Just Cause 2, was elbowed into second.

Rivals Battlefield: Bad Company 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are third and fourth, respectively, followed by Pokemon SoulSilver, Wii Sports Resort and Pokemon HeartGold.

FIFA 10, Wii Fit Plus and New Super Mario Bros. Wii rounded out the top 10.

Last Friday's new releases had no impact on the chart. BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger (21st on Xbox 360, 19th on PS3), Dead or Alive: Paradise, Lips: I Love the '80s (15th on Xbox 360), Mount & Blade: Warband (15th on PC) and New U: Fitness First - Yoga & Pilates all failed to make the top 40.

I thought everyone in UK would have one copy of this game by now. Even if they didnt have a Wii. So who the hell is buying it?
  • The-Bodybuilder #2 2 years ago

    People that want 2 copies?
  • andywilkie35 #3 2 years ago

I ask it everyweek, (as matrim83 has also), who the f*** is still buying this pish?

I was playing Just Dance at a house party on Sunday night. I can see why people are going mad for it, it's hilarious fun when you are pissed up.

I have had a Japanese Wii since release date and my mum has never shown any interest.

Then yesterday she was going crazy about Just Dance and asked if I could buy it as she played it at her friends on saturday night. Lucky for me Just Dance is not out in Japan.. :)

I'm not surprised Blazblue hasn't entered the charts, particularly when I have yet to find a game store (or supermarket come to that) which stocks it!

Edit: Who the fuck voted me down for that?

Just Dance has been number one in the charts twice since Christmas and has been in the top five since December 2009.

Is this going to be the biggest selling video game of 2010 in the UK?
  • Eraysor #11 2 years ago

I feel like I should buy BlazBlue because I owe it to the developer for making something cool and original, but I never seem to enjoy fighting games as much as I would hope. Even Street Fighter IV couldn't hold my attention for long, sadly.

    This.

It's cheap and it's fun. I don't really see why it's success is such a mystery. The people playing this and having a giggle with their friends should be playing what instead? COD? FarmVille?

    Just Dance!

    Why?

    Just Cause...
  • WantOn #14 2 years ago

Its tempting to be a bit snobbish and dismiss Just Dance as a fairly poor effort, but for a party game, its ideal. I thought Ellie's review summed it up pretty well. It has a universal appeal and a simplicity that makes it very accessible, and I have bought it and played it with the missus and the kids. It could be a lot better, don't get me wrong, but it is good enough in what it does.

HMV seems to be the best place to pick up BlazBlue by the way...

As for Just Dance being the biggest seller of the year? Probably not given there's a Halo game out this year.

Being number one for a while doesn't mean you're selling lots, just that for those weeks you were selling the most. If sales are low across the board, then you can get to number one without selling many copies at all.

And I thought the Japanese were weird...
  • schnide #18 2 years ago

I remember for years we were all saying that gaming should be acceptable and go mainstream..

And this is what happened. I think I preferred being niche and obscure.

"If sales are low across the board, then you can get to number one without selling many copies at all."

vgchartz reckons Just Dance has sold nearly 2.2m, which is rather a lot. And that may not take account of the recent resurge.

Forza 3 STILL going strong. Good going, UK!!!

    For shame, US. :p

am i the only one who as noticed gta 4 has been in the top 40 pretty much constantly since it was released? thats gotta be a record
  • axman303 #22 2 years ago

@danmachine A record for GTA maybe, but Mario Kart Wii and Wii Fit have been far higher in the chart since their release. And Mario Kart Wii has been on the market way longer than GTA IV.

That brings up an interesting question though: which game has stayed in the chart the longest ever?
  • Tachiki #23 2 years ago

Poor Red Steel 2. Where are you ? Argh, such a great game ...
  • gjgjg #24 2 years ago

how is pure still coming back into the charts? is ultra cheap or being sold with consoles or something?
  • alcides #25 2 years ago

Just Dance totally beats Final Fantasy XIII in my own book.

EDIT : HEY IM NUMBER 25! PIKACHUUUUUU. sorry.

I wonder if anyone dancing to Surfin' Bird in this game has seen Pink Flamingos...

'Just' is the new 'Super' as far as game titles go. They should have done that with the new Sonic game. 'Just Sonic: No Tails or Shadow'. But Sega didn't (because they just suck).
