UK chart: Batman wings again

As PS3 Slim launch shakes list.

Batman: Arkham Asylum leads the UK All-Formats charts, finishing ahead of Wii Sports Resort for a second consecutive week.

The launch of the PS3 Slim shook things up noticeably as people rushed to partner their new consoles with games.

Popular picks were Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, which sold 128 per cent more copies to surge from 10 to three - its highest finish in a long, long time. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, Fight Night Round 4 and Call of Duty: World at War had similar, if more tame, boosts.

PS3 exclusives LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 reappeared in the late twenties, too.

New entries this week were aerial dog-fighter IL-2 Sturmovik at six, Dissidia: Final Fantasy at 10 and Champions Online at 18.

I got my copy of batman on saturday, good to see it's selling well. I hope it will stay in the lists as long as CoD4 :) show the bigwigs that quality does pay off.

I'm actually glad that Eidos finally got another hit too, even though they've been assimilated into Squeenix. CoD4 continues to sell well because it is a great game (just not as great as Battlefield 2, for instance), and I hope the publishers take notice of this fact. Quality titles keep selling for years and years and years, so please do bother to put the effort in - even for shoed-in licences. I realize that Batman is not a movie licence deal, but still - imagine how well a batman-movie-come-game could sell if it was done well - or any other big-name licence done right?

EDIT: Spelling, but also: FIRST! for the first time ever I think. As if anyone cares.

Wave of the future, I hope: decent licenced games.

CoD4's ever-lasting appeal is staggering tbh.

Batman PC next week (18th Sept) - can't wait!

Everyone seems to love this game and I'm dying to try it.
  • Psiloc #4 2 years ago

FYI, COD4 is a very popular pack in game for the slim for some reason.
  • MiniAmin #5 2 years ago

    COD4 will never die.

    Yay Bats, good for them.
  • BabyJesus #7 2 years ago

Batman deserves that spot for a good while yet.
  • Doctor_What #8 2 years ago

Batman really does deserve the attention. It's a remarkable achievement for such a small studio.
  • Inigo #9 2 years ago

I still haven't got COD4, i've been waiting for it to come down in price. hopefully it will be reduced in price to promote MF2.

my only worry for this batman license now, is that suddenly people are going to throw resources and money at rocksteady, and totally alter their work ethic.

  • GreyBeard #11 2 years ago

Indeed, Batman is a deserving number #1 and I really hope it stays on top for a while.

    Props to Rocksteady.

(Yay, I have an anti-fan! Or maybe I'm being targetted by the Joker!)

"PS3 exclusives LittleBigPlanet and Killzone 2 reappeared in the late twenties, too."

Not like there is so many other exclusives they have been bragging about to buy on the PS3 at this point so nothing odd about it. Actually if you ask me with ALL those sale boosts on PS3 id expect even more PS3 exclusives back in the top charts. PS3 now does have a tempting price but not a reason for me to pay that much for an uncharted. Must be the only game that id wish to play on my PC or 360. Aint paying a whole new console for it. I do make sence with it in my case. Now, for anyone else it depends on if they already have and which console or not for them to decide if they should add a PS3Slim in their livingrooms/gaming rooms.

Funny thing. GOTY will be not on PS3 nor 360. Will be multi this year since it will be apparently Batman, so yeah :) Gonna finish it before i eat and go out now. :p

My Batman Official Game Guide arrived. Not sure why am posting this though... it's absolutly nonsense. I wish I was someplace else.

Props to Rocksteady for their superb work! Now take your time making sure the sequel is perfect! :)
  • schnide #15 2 years ago

Killzone 2 deserves a heavy advertising campaign as if it hadn't even been released once before yet.

    @miiiguel

You did warn us that this week will be full of nonsense so we forgive you ;-)
  • miiiguel #17 2 years ago

Thanks for the indulgence! Fanboys in videogame foruns are much funnier than this guy who keeps telling company XXX (not saying who they are... I might get tortured or something) is the bestest ever, problem is I can't even dare to disagree otherwise he'll flood us with yet another wave of PDF's.

He keeps coming to the back of the room. Fear.
I need to keep talking though. Need. Stay. Awake.

My batman turned up finally today after over a week in post limbo. Christ it is good.

It seems totally bizarre that Modern Warfare is still selling so well. Do you think these purchasers realise we're just two months away from the new one? I don't understand how people have the patience to wait this long but can't wait another couple of months. Maybe these are new gamers who were waiting for £20 off the price of an Xbox, or a two inch slimmer Playstation. Good news for the value of my soon-to-be-secondhand copy about to hit the market.

"The launch of the PS3 Slim shook things up noticeably as people rushed to partner their new consoles with games."

Um, is there even a scintilla of evidence for this curiously format-specific claim? The only PS3 exclusives I can see in the list are LBP (currently selling for about eight quid) and Killzone 2, both at a chart position which, in September, means their sales likely leapt from three copies to five.

    ^^Read Chart Track news section...

"Sales of Eidos’ critically acclaimed title are only down 27% with the PS3 version gaining ground on the Xbox 360 version, boosted by bundling and the launch of Sony’s new PS3 Slim console at £249.99. Retailer bundling of Sony’s new cheaper and slimmer console has had a marked effect on the All Formats Chart this week with Activision-Blizzard and EA the main beneficiaries.

There is still room for 2 new releases in the All Formats Top 10 despite competition from PS3 hardware bundled titles - 505 Games debuts at No6 with ‘IL2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey’ and Square Enix’s RPG on PSP ‘Dissidia: Final Fantasy’ is new at No10."

EG should replace people with retailers in order to be accurate, but i don't think that they care about that...
