Ubisoft cagey about BG&E2 status

Won't discuss those "on hold" claims.

Ubisoft has declined to comment on reports that Beyond Good & Evil 2 has been put on hold.

Claiming it has is Gamersydewriter Colin Solal Cardo, who Twittered (via 1UP) that he had "confirmation" the title was "on hold for now".

"No idea if it's [definite] or temporary but it sucks," he added, after apparently hearing the news at gamescom last week.

Bolstering those claims are comments by Ubisoft bigwig Laurent Detoc. He told Gamezine last July that, "Whether or not [Beyond Good and Evil 2] comes out remains to be seen anyway.

"Well, I didn't say there's definitely going to be another game. I said something had leaked, which means we've been working on some Beyond Good and Evil stuff, but whether there's going to be another game or not, that's something for the future," Detoc added.

Ubisoft announced Beyond Good & Evil 2 at UbiDays last May, showing a pretty trailer with the pig-man in it. Creator Michel Ancel later validated the project as a direct sequel to BG&E1.

"Players who like the first should like the second," Ancel said.

But little has been said since, and with each high-profile event the sequel misses, the rumours grow.

    Make up your goddamn mind Ubi. Either let me get hopelessly excited about this or let me wallow in despair. This fencing about is really boring.
  • muscleblade #3 3 years ago

    That sucks! First announcing one of the most anticipated sequels ever and then putting it on hold. Its not the first time something like this happen but i dont understand it either.
  • Freek #4 3 years ago

    That's so lame! Tease us with a trailer, which got a universally positive response, then putt the thing on hold. Poor show Ubisoft.

    DON'T YOU F-ING DARE, UBISOFT....
  • insincere_dave #6 3 years ago

    My potential Ubisoft purchases drop from 1 to 0 now.

    Cue shock, gasps, awe and a dramatic cello theme.

    no wonder considering how the first one sold..badly.

    But I just want it...badly too. The first one was just unexpected and wow to me

    @Insincere Dave

    +1

    Was the only title I was interested in for full retail price. AC2 will get pickd up when it drops to 20 within 3 months. I can't even think of other Ubi stuff at the moment.

    Splinter Cell Conviction? I'll be gutted if this never sees the light of day. The leaked trailer with Jade free-running looked fantastic.
  • Freek #12 3 years ago

    Speaking off Splinter Cell, that dropped of the map for a year as well, and came back gloriously. So there's still a little hope.

    "First announcing one of the most anticipated sequels ever"

    Hardly. The reason that there's all this pissing about is that hardly anyone played the original.
  • Lukree #14 3 years ago

    Oh noes! The first one was one brilliant feel-good game!
  • menage #15 3 years ago

    @cardboard

    Perhaps, could well be awesome, but I wasn't a big fan of the other ones so I'll wait and see if it lives up to the trailers.
  • geeza2020 #16 3 years ago

    please god no. How can Ubi employees possibly look at themselves in the morning and think "I may have cancelled the development of the sequel to one of the most underrated games of all time, but at least i gave the green light to another below average, over-rated metal gear clone (AKA Splinter cell) piece of shite on to the world" i couldnt........

    A dollar says the staff assigned to it have been temporarily moved onto whatever big project is coming out soon from Ubisoft, as it will no doubt be at risk of missing its release date. As soon as that game is finished, they get their staff back, everything continues as normal. In fact, I wager TWO DOLLARS.
  • Figgernaggot #18 3 years ago

    Fuck off Ubisoft, get your priorities right.
  • penhalion #19 3 years ago

    I would like to be upset but, I actually played the first one and I can't imagine what the story for a second one would be. It's not like it ended on a cliffhanger or anything like that.

    Having said that though. The FMV they showed of the broken down hover car with poor pig trying to fix it was definitely very promising.
  • menage #20 3 years ago

    @geeza

    I don't even like Splinter Cell but it was hardly below average.
  • intpleeus #21 3 years ago

    I enoyed BG&E, but it wasn't that good, was it? I don't understand why people are so excited about a sequel; there are a dozen games I would like to see first. I have so many games above BG&E2 on my wish list, and have scarcely the money or time to play them. If I were in charge of Ubisoft, then I wouldn't just put the game on hold, but cancel it entirely. It'll probably be another commercial flop -- too risky.
  • Sar #22 3 years ago

    They had better not fucking cancel this.

    I'll never buy another Ubisoft game ever again. I did it with Sierra when they cancelled the B5 game years back, and I can do it again.

    @penhalion

    what about the running through the streets being chased by the military one?

    @intpleeus

    Its top of mine!

    Are you kidding me? Did you not see the scene at the end?
  • Thalanos #25 2 years ago

    I'm very disappointed in you Ubisoft. Very disappointed.

    Sales may have been low for BG&E but the fan base couldn't be more solid. Guaranteed sales there. Word of mouth has spread of how good the first one is. The games press will be all over BG&E2 when it appears. Add a tiny bit of marketting (unlike the first game) and it will be a hit.

    Please reconsider Ubi. Don't make me beg.
  • bratmandu #26 2 years ago

    Just do it already you idiots. The best game your company ever does and you put the sequel on hold?
  • OldMan #27 2 years ago

    How typical.... Finally a first class adult adventure game for the 360 in sight, and now this. How about showing just a little bit of courage UBI? You know there are plenty shooters out there already -- maybe some of us are ready for something different.
