The Darkness PS3 delayed
Xbox 360 still on track.
2K Games has confirmed to Eurogamer that the PlayStation 3 version of The Darkness has been delayed until July in Europe.
Retailers are reporting 20th July, but, despite initially confirming that, 2K has said the current target is simply "July".
The Xbox 360 version is still down for release on 29th June, mind you, and you can read our review of that by clicking on the blue words.
2K's confirmation of the PS3 version's delay comes after retailers updated their listings for the game and were picked up on by bloggers.
Of course, if you're really desperate, you could always import the US version, which is released today - PS3 games being helpfully region-free.
Judging by our recent first impressions, you might well want to, with developer Starbreeze's tentacular comic-clad action winning high praise.

I'm assuming 360 version because that's the version the devs were always showing. But, I don't mind holding out for the PS3 version if someone can confirm that it is superior?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I used to import alot, but I am not so savvy any more :/

Was planning on getting hold of X360 version anyway for the achievement points!
Comment below viewing threshold Show
That would have made sense if it wasn't just Europe.

However, with my appetite for this game being whetted (ironically) by videos on the PS3 Network I think I can't be bothered waiting and will pick up the 360 version.
Sorry, Sony.

Oh, apart from driving wheels, cos they rock.
Oh, and maybe the Steel Battalion controller.
But a full-on kb & m for an FPS? Pah! 2 sticks works just great when the game is built around them, and I always maintain "You cannot turn at an infinite rate of speed in real life anyway". The trigger/bumper combo that seems to be prevalent in hardware now is also very good for FPS, meaning you can now do 4 things while moving and turning (6 if you include the "clicks" on the sticks).
Comment below viewing threshold Show
There's nothing wrong with controller and FPS - games made for a controller can work well... a game like Halo illustrates this perfectly.
But forcing a PC FPS control scheme on to a controller (PC ports) does often not work perfectly.
Yes, RTS works best with a keyboard and mouse, but a RTS made from the ground up for a controller (like Halo Wars) could work just fine if done right. The problem has been that RTS are PC ports which is hard to do. Battle For Middleearth 2 on 360 worked pretty well though and was perfectly playable.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
LOL, my thoughts exactly. Couch potato!
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Surely you must be one of a rare breed. I just can't play FPS games using the PS controller without getting severe hand cramps after just 15mins.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I know Game use barcodes for pricing there products, so imported versions will not be readable (unless for some reason they have used the same barcode worldwide- this is very unlikely).
They will not want to purchase a NTSC version of the game, so if they see it is one, they will not 'trade' it. Even if they do actually work perfectly in PAL regions.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Not that rare... I'm part of that species... The XBox controller is a bit too clunky for me. I know I have dinky hands but still. N64 controller was still all time best tho.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I highly doubt any of them will take in second hand import games. Maybe an independent gaming retailer, but definitely not those three.
I wouldn't trade a game at those places anyway due to the downright insulting trade-in prices. Gamestation used to be ok, but now their trade-ins since being taken over by Game are frankly appalling, just as many people predicted would be the case.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Ah yes, if I was forced to play an FPS on a joypad- the N64's would be my choice of pad
Comment below viewing threshold Show
For our local store, import games are fine, as long as they are sold in this country, and will work on the console, so presumably you'll be able to trade the darkness in once it comes out here
might vary from store to store though, but we got NTSC versions of a couple of ps3 games
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Way to go Sony. After all, it is Sony who manufacture the discs.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Or is it just that the checkout assistant who accepted the trade-in, didn't check to see that isn't wasn't PAL?
Comment below viewing threshold Show
yeah its fine for psp and DS games too (not umd movies though)
just remembered actually, the BBFC rating also has an impact on this, so assuming the darkness is 18 or 15 rated in this country, that means you may not be able to trade it in, as it wouldn't have the appropriate rating on the box/disc, might be worth a go anyway (not 100% sure on this issue)
and we deliberately allow ntsc games in some cases, rather than in error (99% of the time they wouldn't scan at the till, plus the US rating system is pretty noticeable

You can actually aim with those limp, dead-zoned analog sticks? O_o
"Ah yes, if I was forced to play an FPS on a joypad- the N64's would be my choice of pad"
The N64 had a terrible pad and anyone who claims otherwise is really kidding themselves. Three prongs? One analog stick? Two buttons? All are terrible ideas and lacking compared to current pads. Take away the third (and useless) prong and all you have is a crappy Dual Shock without rumble, one analog stick and less buttons.
And saying you'd prefer to play a FPS on a pad with only one analog stick and not enough buttons to play any modern FPS is madness!
Comment below viewing threshold Show
How about - different people have different tastes? There are plenty of games out there that don't need pads with more buttons than fingers.
And yes I can aim with dual sticks. Personally for a lot of 3rd person games its a godsend to me.
The N64 controller fitted my hands perfectly thats all.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Sure, people do have different tastes (and different sized/shaped hands), but I think the pads of today are much better than past offerings in general. Yes some games don't need all the buttons, but then others do. A pad with many buttons allows both, a pad with few doesn't.
The PS3 and 360 pads are very refined and it's hard to imagine where the pad can go next. They do what they do exceptionally well and are extremely versatile.

For me, the PS2 controller is the best (prefer it over the SIXAXIS because I don't like those triggers) and feels quite comfortable (though I never play for more than a 2 hour stretch as I simply don't have the time anymore). It doesn't really excel in any game type bar maybe fighters but it isn't rubbish for any game type either.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Well actually it has. While it's basic layout hasn't been altered it has been added to in every iteration. The PS2 version had pressure sensitive buttons added while the PS3 has better triggers and motion control. Hence "refinement".

Comment below viewing threshold Show
Comment below viewing threshold Show
People with a preference, omg!
...
Comment below viewing threshold Show
For the record, Resistance controls very well with a sixaxis.
The PS3 analogue sticks are better than the Dualshocks, but still not as good as the 360's. The 360 bumpers pissed me off though, kept accidentally hitting them when I played my cousins, I guess I would get used to it though. If the Sixaxis had the 360 style triggers, it would be much better, and I think we all know whose D-Pad is the best.
In short: Sixaxis + 360 triggers + Better joysticks = best
@davisorle - Is that supposed to make any sense? I know it's the usual fanboy nonsense but at least be eloquent.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I thought the N64 pad was ace and still do; never felt comfy with the PS2 (barely tried the PS3, though... it does feel oddly 'light', but that might just be down to having not used a sony controller for a while before trying it) or Gamecube pads (even more so for the two xboxes, although to be fair I never owned them). It's all a matter of opinion.....

I was surprised to see they’re still using those button symbols on adverts
Not really. They are part of their franchise. They have been marketed for years and people in general associate it with the franchise. To stop using them would be as much destruction of capital as it would be to suddenly change the playstation name into something else.
In fact, those symbols have been examples in several of my marketing and psychology books. They are what what every marketing company aspires to do.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
What worked in 95 doesn't now"
I know Sony bashing is in-vogue and all but what I said holds true. I said the pad has been REFINED over the years, I think a lot of you need to look that word up in the dictionary. The PS pad has been refined over the years. What all you are talking about, a redesign, is not REFINEMENT.
Secondly, yes it does work. Which is why Nintendo copied the Dual Shock with the GC pad and classic controller for the Wii and MS copied it with the Xbox and 360 pads. Dual analog sticks, d-pad, four shoulder buttons and four face buttons are now standard. The first pad to combine all these features?
The PS pad does what it needs to very well, hence it's design now being the standard. Yes there are a few niggles with analog sticks and other issues but it's basic design is solid.
"I thought the N64 pad was ace and still do"
Would you rather play the games of today with an N64 pad?

Comment below viewing threshold Show
I'm surprised it's taken this long to report the delay of the PS3 version, I knew about it (from work) a couple of weeks back :/
On the subject of pads, the PS3's analogue sticks are awfully positioned for people with sasquatch-esque mitts (me) after an hour or so it's bloody agonising.
The triggers are awfully nasty feeling too.
But without a shadow of a doubt the 360 has the worst d-pad I've ever seen/used, even trying to browse the marketplace with it is a pain in the tits.

"I know Sony bashing is in-vogue"
Not really in-vogue, for many the ps3 is a big disappointment.
"Would you rather play the games of today with an N64 pad?"
Nope, I'm happy with my 360 controller and Wii stick thing
I don't disagree with everything your saying, but I'm bored with the old playstation pad. That silver boomerang looked interesting though.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
The only people who are disappointed with the PS3 are, to my knowledge, people who don't own one / can't afford one.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
i was actually waiting for somebody to correct you, but since no one is talking....
i am not 100% sure on this, but i think that nintendo invented the analogic pad, not sony. if im not wrong the n64 was the first console ever to have analogic stick (it also invented the rumble feature, but it was sold with Starfox). Anyway, long story short: Nintendo always tries to reinvent its pads, even though they're often said to be the better ones, it doesnt stop them from trying something new....and look where it got them!
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Comment below viewing threshold Show
I never said Sony ever invented any of those things, but they made them the standard. All pads post Dual Shock (with the exception of the Wii for obvious reasons) have been a copy of it's basic boomerang, dual stick and button design. I never said anything about analog sticks being in the PS pad first, dual analog sticks however were.

You guys are really delusional...but I guess other real gamers (who are not xbots & Wiiboys) are afraid to confront all of you on your PS3-elitist comments. Sorry to inform you but there's ALOT of disappointed gamers of the PS3's performance (SO FAR) unless you just wanted to watch blu-ray movies on it and admire its design. You would show more character if you would just admit it to yourselves. When you pay over $600 for a game system and there's a dearth of quality games then you're f*@king disappointed. Everything else in the world of electronics can be criticized but if you do it to the PS3 you're some kind of fanboy or hater or it's in-vogue. GIVE ME A BREAK! It couldnt be cause, as of right now, the Wii has innovation up its sleeve and Xbox360 has a shitload of games to play....noooo, that's not it...it's because we are all haters. Granted there are loads of haters but don't lump disappointed gamers into that group...please. You would think you all had stock in Sony the way you react when someone says any negative comment. Sony was on top so long that it has transformed normal gamers into "Sony defenders against evil". "Evil" being anyone who doesnt think Sony is god's gift to the world. I've seen this scenario with Atari, Coleco, Sega, Nintendo and now Sony. I hope nobody wins this dumb console war because it gives the winner a false sense of security and superiority. Ask Sega (12 years ago) or Nintendo (9 years ago)....and Sony presently.
Alright, let the flames begin since IMO this site is divided into three gamer groups and I don't fit into any of them since I don't care which system is better. It's all about the GAMES not the system.

Xbox 360 controller - just got my hands on this the other day and it was horrible. Am I the only person who liked the big Xbox controllers? Who decided to make them the same size as the very tiny, funny little, cute controllers that came out later on and gave my hands cramp? Bastards.
Ps2 controllers - Nice....but too small (etc.)

Depends really, early in the consoles life, it's not a problem, it's expected.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Agreed and, with a little patience, the PS3 will have an abundance of quality titles. It is, after all, in terms of worldwide availability, the youngest console this generation.
I wonder, what on earth will your argument be when there are hundreds of titles available for the PS3?
Come to think of it, I can play all the PS1 titles and the vast majority of PS2 titles on it already..surely that means there are MORE games available to play on the PS3 than on ANY console...ever.
"Sorry to inform you but there's ALOT of disappointed gamers of the PS3's performance (SO FAR)"
There's a lot of naive people disappointed in the PS3's performance so far. I think it's fair to say that those in the know / with a degree of foresight are disappointed with the early, shoddy ports that are available on the PS3.
If a Ferrari puts in a relatively poor lap time but it's in perfect working order, do you criticise the car, or the driver?

LOL. Dude you ask prety clear a question that a lot of them wouldnt like to answer, trust me on that one. Let's just say that PS3 rocks their world no matter what from what we have all seen and heard. I can afford a PS3 and lots of PS3s if I wanted to but having the money to buy somehting expensive doesn't mean you wont be a fool paying for it. There must be a reason to buy it and a console meens games so for those who got it early I really wouldn't buy any kind of excuse. I know i'll start hearing again about this motorstorm and I cant laught with that one anymore. Seriously.

Sega was the first to put an analog controller on a console with the NiGHTs into Dreams Controller release 7/May/1996 in Japan.
Where as the N64 was release 23/June/1996 in Japan.
The Sony Dual shock analog wasn't released until 1997.
In short Sega rules viva la Resistance!!!!

Ahhh..your Sony stripes are shining bright, guys. The usual
Sony fanboy response is to give some PS/PS2 references to cover up the dismal reality which is....THE PS3 as of Summer 2007. So you spent your hard earned money to play old games, watch blu-ray movies and admire its design. Noone is saying the PS3 wont come alive next year (I know it will) but after hearing for a year how Sony was going to wipe the floor with Ninty and MS with their vaunted machine when it was released....now we hear you guys say "wait til next year...you'll see".
It's a shame you have to wait so long....no it's NOT!

Really mature comment...
But anyway, people that are right now looking for the best value-for-money gaming experience have no way to turn but the PS2. It has by far the most diverse and strong game lineup, whether you like it or not. 360 and to a bigger extent PS3 are playing catch-up simply because both consoles haven’t been around as long. That’s not being a Sony fanboy, that’s just being realistic. For most people the HD graphics are irrelevant and gaming wise PS3 and 360 present nothing new.
If you don’t own a PS2 and want to move to HD games in the future, the PS3 might be a good investment right now. Or if you’re looking forward to some of the PS3 franchises that will come down the road and also want to play some of the few currently released titles right now, PS3 is a good investment. Personally I got it because I’m a baseball nut and with PS3 being region-free I can now finally get Yakyuu Spirits 4 and MLB The Show from Japan and the US respectively.
But IMHO you’d be a fool to base the decision on which console to get on just the games that are out right now. Like you’d also be a fool to get a console if there’s nothing that you fancy playing on it right now.
People saying the PS3 would ‘wipe the floor’ with Nintendo and MS in the first few months after its release are idiots, I fully agree with you. And anyone expecting a huge PS3 game library by now is an idiot as well.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
"If you don’t own a PS2 and want to move to HD games in the future, the PS3 might be a good investment right now."
Les, and you talk about my maturity? What true gamer doesn't/hasn't own a PS2? It was released 7 years ago...hello? The only people buying one are kids who were too young when it was released (they can't afford PS3 or 360 anyways) and gamers who are replacing their non-working ones.
Also, The PS3 is NOT a good investment right now since its library is not much to talk about. Its a better investment to wait for some....uhh....great games and a price reduction.
"But IMHO you’d be a fool to base the decision on which console to get on just the games that are out right now. Like you’d also be a fool to get a console if there’s nothing that you fancy playing on it right now. "
You'd be a fool to not buy a system based on the games right now. Sorry to inform you but.....I want to play my games RIGHT NOW. While you're waiting, i'm playing quality games presently. When the PS3 gets theirs, i'll be there.
Question: Why do you hate the 360 so much?...it's unhealthy
"360 and to a bigger extent PS3 are playing catch-up simply because both consoles haven’t been around as long. That’s not being a Sony fanboy, that’s just being realistic. For most people the HD graphics are irrelevant and gaming wise PS3 and 360 present nothing new."
What planet are you on? I know it's in some Sony solar system. 360 and PS3 aren't playing catch-up to the PS2...it's a different game system generation. I guess the PS2 was playing catch-up to the PS...no, but the xbox played catch-up with the PS2 like the PS3 is presently playing catch-up with the 360.
BTW, i'm a baseball nut too, Les...my favorite games were MVP Baseball 2005 and I still play Baseball Stars 2 from time to time when I'm feeling retro
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Well I don't, that's a conclusion people like you draw whenever someone isn't blown away by the 360 or says something positive about (god forbid) a Sony product...
"What planet are you on? I know it's in some Sony solar system. 360 and PS3 aren't playing catch-up to the PS2...it's a different game system generation."
I think the generational distinction is mainly important to the hardcore gamers. The general public doesn't seem to care much with the PS2 still easily outselling the 360 and PS3. A person that buys a PS2 right now isn't likely to get either of the 'current gen' systems anytime soon, so it's a potential sales lost.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
Please try to refrain from labelling me...it's ineffective and it doesn't wash.
BTW, I'm not blown away by the 360. I get blown away by games not systems. And I have a Sony Bravia 42" which works just great.
The conclusion people like ME get is from your comments....the obvious reluctance to say anything positive about the 360 while the PS3 can do no wrong.
Comment below viewing threshold Show
So you can label me and I can't label you?! At least I'm accurate...
"I get blown away by games not systems."
Any gamer should put games first, system second. But factoring it out completely makes little sense. You have to work the hardware to get to enjoy the game. So far current gen (PS3, 360 and Wii) has shown little to get blown away by IMO. Your gaming tastes may be different, won't judge you for that. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they'd say. But I will judge you on not reading my posts and making ridiculous statements.
"And I have a Sony Bravia 42" which works just great."
And I've got a legal copy of Windows XP.

Everything is a poor port of a game I already played on my Xbox 360. Even Oblivion, which everyone went on and on about being better than the Xbox 360 version. Well, it's only better if you don't mind the headaches induced by the poor frame rate and the fact that the PS3 controller's analogue sticks lack any precision whatsoever.
All I ever play on my PS3 are Blu-ray discs and old PS2 games. There's no way I'm going crawling back to Microsoft (and you can fucking forget Nintendo), but what a complete waste of money and disappointment the PS3 was.
