Syphon Filter PS3 on the way?

Internet says so, Sony remains quiet.

Sony is declining to comment on rumours that a new Syphon Filter game is in development for PS3.

As reported by Kotaku, the rumours emerged after someone spotted something interesting on the website for PCB Productions.

PCB is a digital content studio based in LA, in case you'd forgotten. Hiding in there amongst the long list of the company's credits is one for "Syphon Filter 5 - PlayStation 3 - Sony Bend". Apparently PCB worked on "facial mo-cap" for the game.

Adding fuel to the fire is the fact that Sony Bend, which produced the earlier Syphon Filter games, is advertising for a new tools programmer on Gamasutra. Surely that could be for any old game, though?

Either way, Sony's got nothing to say. "We do not comment on rumour or speculation," a spokesperson told us, again.

Oh well. If you're a fan why not relive Syphon Filter's glory days, and the boring days, by checking out ye olde reviewes.

I loved the ps1 SF games. I have a feeling, if memory serves that the ps2 one was a bit pants (no 4?) but the psp/ps2 latest were brilliant again.
Might make me consider getting a ps3.

I really liked the PSP iterations. I would prefer it if they slightly de-generic'd the characters though.

Syphon filter is ace. I remember playing the first one back in the PS1 days, tazoring people until they set alight

I really do hope they release one for the ps3

I thought the PS2 outing was brilliant, in terms of being in keeping with what I'd come to expect of the previous efforts anyway. Never got to try out the online side of things tho.
Insofar as replayvalue/unlocking weapony goodness is concerned, among my fave games ever - this is what achievements/trophies should always be about imo. Take out these 20 enemies in this bit with headshots with this weapon in 30s and you'll unlock this better weapon. Scour the level for this piece of intel and you'll unlock this bonus level to parallel the main story. Complete this level without dying and unlock more health. Stealth this bit and you'll get a better tazer or whatever.
It's all very well having a virtual post-it to tell my friends I completed a game at the hardest difficulty, but it's nicer to get a pressie for doing so, innit?!
I sincerely hope they keep this up for PS3.
PS3/PSP interoperability would also be good if they put out another handheld edition.

SF was awesome, but Splinter Cell surpassed it.

    @ JIGSAW

Totally agree. A new Colony Wars would be fantastic. To my mind Syphon Filter was always at best cheesy and generic and should be left well alone.

Colony Wars on the other hand was excellent. Especially the criminally overlooked third game, Red Sun.

what the PS3 really needs is another futuristic game with shooting and stuff.

Ah Syphon Filter. Only really played the first one of the TV console versions, but it brings fond memories. And the PSP versions were great as I recall.

I loved SF but the series went downhill. Second and third outings were a disappointment for me. Unless this was a serious make-over, I would not bother with a Syphon Filter 5.

I would love to see this in the vien of Dark Mirror, as that was one of my favourite action games in years when I played it on the PS2 last year; just a tremendously slick, solid adventure with very nice use of the different goggle types.

I hope this is true; Sony Bend seem to be on a roll of late. I would definitely check this out.

Syphon Filter on the PSP was awesome. It Kicks Metal Gear Solid ass for story and controls.

Can't wait for this. PSP versions were amazing, so it looks like the best stealth-action game EVAH may very well be on its way.

I played around half of Syphon Filter 1 and 2 and all of Dark Mirror.

The gameplay is OK, nothing particularly original but satisfying enough. The problem with the series is the excruciatingly macho dialogue and cliché laden C-movie storylines.

It's like watching an amateur version of 24 made by sincere yet utterly deluded students. It's almost too embarrassing to play.

yeah, the sf stories are pretty generic to a fault. All well produced though and not really mgs-ish at all.

Will most likely have multiplayer, could very well be an antidote to socom.

This is one game where perhaps a standalone co-op bit would be nice too.
