Symphony of the Night on Weds

Finally hitting Live Arcade.

"Fangs" are due this morning to Microsoft for word that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night will be arriving on Xbox Live Arcade this Wednesday at 9am GMT.

The oft-celebrated former PlayStation game is the most hotly anticipated Konami conversion yet, giving players the chance to explore Dracula's maze-like castle in the cape of his half-vamp son Alucard, negotiating the usual enjoyable blend of action, puzzles and car-boot sales.

It's so good, Microsoft reckoned, that the upper limit on file-sizes for Xbox Live Arcade games was waived in order that it might be converted. The company said during GDC that the limit would be 150MB from now on.

It'll cost 800 Microsoft points to get involved (GBP 6.80 / EUR 9.30 in old money), and as well as the original version you'll be able to tackle it in an "enhanced" guise with updated visuals and audio. Naturally you'll be able to compete for 12 achievements too - for a total of 200 gamerpoints.

Those curious as to what to expect would do well to check out this batch of screenshots - or wait for the demo version to drop alongside the full game on Wednesday morning.

Good news, but I'm still waiting for Catan to happen.
  • Darkedge #7 5 years ago

    What's so great about Castlevania?
  • capcom23 #9 5 years ago

@Cojam, you ask this question about every game that has been released! you like it or you don't like it, simple!!!!!!!

Castlevania is about beating dracula in a big castle but the road isn't easy so you need to explore the castle and gaining experience to level up and better weapons. It's an RPG game but in a castle. Just like i said you like it or you don't like it. no once forcing you to buy it.

What's so special about halo? gear of wars?? blah blah blah

So, when was the last original game on XBLA? I'm so tired of retro games! They could at least release them every other week!
  • groovychainsaw #11 5 years ago

@ coojam - its like metroid, but with vampires. Therefore, its pretty good.

Sorry, I just realised how arrogant my comment sounded... I meant it in an inquisitive way. Most games have a reputation for why they're good, but I know nothing about Castlevania other than it being what looks like a 2D platformer. I wanted to know what sets it apart as I've never played it but heard lots about it. Groovychainsaw kinda summed it up, but I've never played Metroid either! God for someone who's being playing game since he was 6 and is now in his early twenties, you'd have thought I'd have a bit more experience with this kinda stuff!!

    @coojam

Metroid is good too, its like castlevania, with aliens
  • Poorandugly #14 5 years ago

I love Dawn of Sorrow so I'll definetly be checking in on this. I wonder what the enhanced version looks like, though. A little eye candy has never hurt a game...

I wonder if Australian gamers will actually get something this week. For some reason we were unworthy of TMNT.

People whining about 'retro' games make me sad. We've had more than enough original titles so far, and you know what? NEARLY without exception they've all sucked. This is one of the all time classics, people who missed it the first time around on the PSX/Saturn are in for a treat. Maybe you'd prefer another Small Arms or Novadrome? Garbage. How about another Alien Hominid? Garbage (not even half as good as Metal Slug which it tries to hard to mimic). Get a clue.

Sad - My PSOne collectors edition will plummet in value

Happy - Everyone gets the chance to play a truly outstanding classic.

    Miss at your madness.

    @ mechamonky, hihihihhahahahahaha, that's right!

But on otherhand you have the booklet and cd-case and that is allready a lot worth to have in your collection.
