PSN version to follow a week later.

EA has announced a demo of Skate 2, the game about urban children's preferred mode of transport, is coming to both 360 and PS3.

The playable sections of New San Vanelona will be arriving on Xbox Live Marketplace tomorrow. The Playstation Network version will follow on a week later, on 15th January.

Downloaders will be able to access the hefty character customisation routine, enjoy a slice of the single player storyline and try out a few challenges carelessly left laying around the new environment. On top of all that, two multiplayer modes are planned for inclusion, specifically the intriguing "Thrasher's Hall of Meat" and "Spot Battle".

As newly crowned king of the genre the second instalment in the Skate series has much to live up to, and Tony will no doubt be watching it like a Hawk. Skate 2 will be released for Xbox 360 and PS3 on 23rd January.

Cool, didn't play the first, will try this out. Got a bit bored of skateboarding games after buying a lot of the Tony Hawk games.

Yeah, first time I played TH was on the Dreamcast, I was hooked! Then like you say it did get tiresome eventually.

I owned all the tony hawks games and thought they were awesome until the mighty skake came along. i still play it regularly and my only gripe i had about it was the inability to pick up the board and climb to hard to reach spots.Now i think thats fixed with the sequeal and im buying this on release! WOOOOOOOO!!!!

I love Skate, even though it skanked me on achievements, as I had completed all challenges, pro challenges, skate comps, and unlocked all areas but it never gave me the achievements for doing these things. This makes the whore in me very sad, but I am very much looking forward to some handplant fun.

Why do they have to have the horrid black fading in the corners??? I thought this was aiming for a more realistic feel, what the heck do they try and simulate looking through a video camera for? I thought it was skater that was the focus, not the camera man. I hate the claustrophobic feeling it gives me. And i'm not even claustrophobic.

can't wait to try it, the only thing that stopped me playing the first game for longer was not being able to get off the board and walk up steps. i was addicted to the tony hawk games since 2 and thought project 8 was one of the best entries in the series, but after playing skate i cant go back to buttons.

edit: i hope this isn't a weekly exclusive for gold members...i stopped paying for live when non game related adverts started appearing

I want this but I will not buy it until I complete all the challenges in the first one.

If they even out the difficulty spikes a little, on top of all the other improvements they have made, this could be my, dare I say it.....2009 GOTY

What's wrong with SCEE? I read somewhere (ps3fanboy it was) that PS3 was the lead platform on this one. The first skate-game wasn't playable on PS3 comparing to X360, so EA Blackbox chose PS3 as their "lead platform", whatever that means... Now this? Only thing we need, is the mandatory two weeks wait for it to appear on the EU store

Hands down. If this game runs significantly better on X360 than it does on PS3, I'm selling that dark piece of bluray-crap sitting next to my TV!

Of course it runs better on the 360. Every multiplatform game does.

That must have been my fault. The complete opposite thing happened to me. Turned my xbox on one day to find it had added about 600 gamerscore. It said I had completed all of the online challenges even though i didn't have internet at the time.
