Red Faction, Homefront before April 2011

THQ has reveals planned for E3 this year.

THQ boss Brian Farrell has promised to show the new Red Faction: Guerrilla game at E3 2010 this summer.

The as yet unnamed follow-up will be released in the publisher's next financial year (April 2010 - March 2011). Farrell said all this in a recent investor call, his favourite place for new announcements, the rogue.

There's no official word what to expect, although a more fully-rounded experience built on the same technology RF Guerrilla technology seems like a good guess. Strong sequels appear to be a feature of this generation, what with Uncharted 2, Assassin's Creed II and Mass Effect 2 doing so well.

Read our Red Faction: Guerrilla review for the full story.

Farrell also said Homefront will be released on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 before April 2011.

That's the shooter set 20 years in the future when North Korea has invaded and occupied the US. Kaos, developer of Frontlines: Fuel of War, is at the helm, and there's even talk of sequel already. Must be confident. Our Homefront preview can tell you more.

I've got an idea for the Red Faction sequel, don't set it on Mars, that red shit is so boring!

Perhaps they can make the story good for RFG2?

That was the only thing I felt was lacking. It was extremely fun, especially with the nano rifle, but the plot was like Total Recall, except shit.

Red Faction but not on Mars? I hope that was an attempt at sarcasm...

Really liked Guerilla, only real improvement needed for the single player is a strategy element, I was really disappointed that I couldn't order my followers around, didn't make sense given that my character was something of a hero to the Faction.

Multiplayer could use a lot of work too, co-op perhaps?

Tone the EDF down and make it last longer than 5 hours on normal and we will talk Volition. Keep the Geo-Mod 2.0 though since that ruled.

One to watch for I think. The first game had a lot of potential I think but had a quite a few niggles that held it back from greatness so hopefully they might do better second time around. They do have a great game engine for this anyway.

I hope they have set the new RF game at a point in the future where Mars is completely terraformed, so it has more tree's and stuff. The desolate Mars landscape from the first was okay for about half an hour, but after that it just felt like you were driving round a giant headache. As long as they keep the cool damage physics.

got RFG 1 in the thq pack on steam, am really injoying it, but am annoyed that there are no pilotable air vehicles, no modding and the multi matchmaking sucks!

WE need modding this time on pc !

While I don't have a PS3 and so didn't play Uncharted 2 or Demon's Souls, and I didn't get around to picking up Assassin's Creed II yet, Red Faction: Guerrilla was my personal favourite game for 2009 (and I was only playing the 360 version!).

I got it last week for my friend's birthday as well, and he seems to prefer it to Assassin's Creed II (which he'd just completed). Incidentally, I got it from ShopTo.net for 360 for under 12 quid delivered, and it's under a tenner on PS3 on Amazon.co.uk

The sequel has so much potential - some more built-up areas, some stealth options, 2-player co-op for the campaign, and some more control to-ing and fro-ing on the maps (the EDF seem very reluctant to try and reclaim their territory on the map unless you trigger a mission). Also, designerheadache is right - that matchmaking is a royal pain in the butt!

But Red Faction: Guerrilla got so many things right already - great single-player, great multi-player. Honestly, I think one of the reasons it didn't sell so well is because of the Red Faction name - I didn't enjoy the original Red Faction on PC, and it was only because I happened to play (and love) the demo that I picked up this one. Sad to see it at such low prices already (US$5 for PC on D2D last week!).

Oh God, I'm geekgasming over the sequel now... imagine different shops or workshops in different towns, being able to modify your equipment more, an adjustable jetpack in single-player so some of the multiplayer functions are in there... good luck, Volition! :)
