Nintendo dates Cube Wiimakes, more News

Wii DS News by Tom Bramwell

15 December, 2008

Nintendo UK has published its latest round of release dates for Wii and DS, including its upcoming pedometer-based walking game (20th February), and the first two GameCube-to-Wii adaptations in the series known here as "New Play Control!"

They are Pikmin (out here 6th February) and Mario Power Tennis (March), and will be followed by Pikmin 2, Metroid Primes 1 and 2 and potentially Chibi Robo and Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, although the last two are still unconfirmed.

Elsewhere on the lists (reproduced below) there's confirmation that NeoPets Puzzle Adventure is due for Wii and DS on 23rd January (yippee!). That one is Infinite Interactive's colourful Othello-derived adventure drawn from the same principles as the excellent Puzzle Quest. (Check out our Neopets hands-on for more).

On a similar subject, Puzzle Quest Galactrix is listed for DS as March, and elsewhere in quirkies there's also Koroinpa 2 from Hudson, down as Q1 2009. (We so wanted to like the first one).

The list also includes Sonic and the Black Knight and MadWorld from SEGA, which it claims will be released in March - and SEGA's verified that with us this morning. Ubisoft, however, has advised us that it still has Tenchu: Shadow Assassins for Wii down as "2009", rather than 5th March, which is Nintendo's guidance.

Still, there's more reason to believe that Mystery Case Files: MillionHeir will be out on the listed 6th February date, as Nintendo makes a big song and dance of it in the press release. It's a "simple and gripping observation game" for DS with co-op/multiplayer, in the platform holder's opinion, and US reviews have been fair-to-good.

Then of course, perhaps aptly, we come full circle to "Walk With Me! Do You Know Your Walking Routine?", out on 20th Feb as stated. This comes bundled with two pedometers (spares sold separately) to count your steps, and allows you to compare routines with four friends "or even dog" and has world rankings.

It came out in Japan recently and bothered the charts thanks to gradually rising sales. There's more info on Nintendo's website.

Alternatively, you might like to walk a mile in another publisher's shoes, or check out Ubisoft's My Health Coach: Manage Your Weight, which also comes with a pedometer add-on, and came out earlier this year. We thought it was alright, unlike our mile-in-another segue.

Or, after all that, you could just throw yourself into the pile of dates below, but beware that they are Nintendo's guidance, and some may be unconfirmed by their respective publishers judging by our calls this morning.

They're still making Army Men games?

Anyway, February/March looks promising in terms of Wii releases if these dates are anywhere near accurate.

Not a hope speedjack. Why would Nintendo relese Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on the same disc if it can make double the money on seperate releases? Price won't be that low either.

few things that vaguely grabbed my attention-

mystery 505 Games games that sound interesting from the titles but are probably going to be shit:
# Pop Town (505 Games) - 27 Feb 2009
# Emergency Room (505 Games) - 27 Mar 2009

excellent pun:
# Jeep Thrills (formerly Let's Off Road) (ZOO) - 9 Jan 2009

comedy misspelling award:
# Onechanbra-Bikini Zombi Slayers (D3Publisher) - Feb 2009

Make some NEW games, Nintendo.

I want to see Metroid Prime 4. Pikmin 3. Not remakes.

Not that you care.

They should do a Metroid Prime trilogy box for the Wii. I'd buy that, even though I already own all three of 'em.

There's some good/potentially interesting stuff in there:

* Deadly Creatures (THQ) - 13 Feb 2009
* House of the Dead: Overkill (SEGA) - Feb 2009
* Mushroom Men: The Spore Wars (SouthPeak Games) - Feb 2009
* Tenchu Shadow Assassins (Ubisoft) - 5 Mar 2009
* Little King´s Story (Rising Star Games) - 28 Mar 2009
* Sonic and the Black Knight (SEGA) - Mar 2009
* MADWORLD (SEGA) - Mar 2009
* Kororinpa 2 (working title) (Hudson Soft) - Q1 2009
* PES 2009 (Konami) - Q1 2009

Obviously Sonic will be rubbish, but I live in hope... ;)

If you sift through the crap, there's a few gems in there for the Wii. Not bad for a Q1 list. The DS list was poor though

Yeah by all means, encourage them to rerelease the same things time after time again. No wonder nintendo doesn't even try.

Well, I'll definitely be getting Madworld and HotD Overkill. Castlevania Judgement, Deadly Creatures, Mushroom Men and (maybe/possibly) Onechanbra have all grabbed my attention as well on different levels. Shame that there's no mention of The Conduit unless I missed it on that list.

I'm not completely sold on the GC Wiimakes though; Mario Power Tennis is slightly promising due to the obvious control update but they are retailing in Japan at 3,800 yen each which (according to an online currency converter) is £27.69. If Nintendo do aim for this sort of price range then I don't think I'm gonna bite.

Pffft! This list just made up my mind for me: After xmas I'll be getting either a ps3 (or more likely, despite its shonky quality) an xbox. Still have some good stuff to finish on t'wii, but I really need a decent arcade racer, and there's been nothing since the brilliant excite truck.

Oh man, I hate to be one of 'those' after detesting them for so long on EG, but after purchasing a Next-Gen Console (ps3/360 irrelevant) the Wii, which was once the prize possession almost a year ago has had no love from me for a long time. And apparently, no love from the Pimp-Master general's, Nintendo, themselves.

The Wii really is a High class Escort gone crack-whore.

The only things on there that grab my attention are HotD: Overkill and Madworld.

However, the first is a "light gun" game and they always end up being crap on home consoles, and the second is by Sega who have been very poor recently.
