Reservoir Dogs Xbox recalled

Due to printing error. Oops.

Eidos has confirmed to Eurogamer that the Xbox version of movie tie-in Reservoir Dogs has been removed from shop shelves following a muckup down the printers'.

The game went on sale in the UK last Friday. Although the PC and PlayStation 2 versions are still available, all you Xbox gamers will have to wait a while longer to get your hands on a copy.

"Eidos has recalled the Xbox version of Reservoir Dogs due to a printing error," a spokesperson said.

"We are working with retail to rectify the situation as quickly as possible."

It's thought that the game has been withdrawn because the 18 certificate logo was not printed on the Xbox discs. However, Eidos has yet to confirm that this is the case, and did not give any indication as to when the game will go back on sale, or how big of a smack upside the head the printers are getting.

Couldn't they have just sent out a load of 18 stickers and told retailers to attach them to the discs?

"following a muckup down the printers' "

Well done for adding the apostrophe, very rare sight. You must have been reading that Truss book or something.

Basically illegal to sell the game if the 18 certificate isn't on the disc. Even though there is a totally huge 18 certificate on the box.

Oh well, not like it was going to sell loads on the xbox though ¬_¬

to the above poster: stupid idea, if the sticky came loose in the drive you'd be buggered and the shops would be at fault for fucking up the customers console.

Yep it's due to the printing error on the discs, that's the reason we were given (Work in Game)so we had to go to the trouble of sending all FOUR xbox copies back to the warehouse.Bastards.

This has been such a common problem recently, you'd have thought they'd have learned. (24 and I think some WWE games being similar entities)

    @the_dudefather:

I'm currently playing the PC version and I don't think it's crap though there are several things about it that are truly awful. Let's start with the ugly stuff, the cgi cutscenes look like something from the PSone era, I can only guess here that it must have been a last minute job...really bad. They should have used stills - Max Payne style. The game is also very short, even shorter than Max Payne 2...I guess they want the player to replay the levels. People complain that the graphics are ugly but I think they are just nothing special, functional. The whole hostage-taking gameplay mechanic is fun but can get very repetitive and boring if you play the game for more than one hour. Imho it's more of an ultraviolent coffebreak game ;-) On the good side there are Michael Madsen's voice acting which is nice (all the other "dogs" didn't bother...yeah it sucks I know) and the gunsounds which are also not bad at all. Imo, the driving parts are fun but at the same time the physics are so unrealistic that it gets really cartooney sometimes. At the end of the day I must say I like it but it definitely shouldn't be a full priced title.

    Thanks for the review Skeletor.
That sounds like a 4/10 on a good day.

My Xbox is stuffed in the attic now, shame.

On related news, EG reporters are recalled due to spelling errors...

Didn't Eidos have that thing with the intro being missing from the Xbox version of Tomb Raider Legend?

As for the no sticker dealy, Zone of the Enders originally shipped with no 15 certificate sticker on the box, and they weren't allowed to sell it. Especially annoying as I bunked the morning off of college to go and buy it, and nowhere would sell it to me.

I've got a game that's BBFC rated 15 on the box, but it isn't on the disc... wonder if that's going to be uber-valuable in the future. Probably not.
  • twelveways #17 6 years ago

    The game is absolute poo.
As you can imagine, being a movie rip, its very very linear. They dont have the licenses for the voices, apart from Madsen, and the replacement voices sound like, well, computer game voice actors. Gameplay on the pc is horrible, mainly due to having xbox controls.
There are some nice ideas in this game, ordering people around by the point of your gun is quite good fun at first and there is swearing in it but it just doesnt cut the mustard (what a weird expression).
Hopefully Scarface wont be such a big disappointment, but Im not holding my breath...

The best part is retailers are warned not to just stick an 18 sticker on the disc, in case it unbalances it inside the xbox and causes damage to the disc/drive.
  • thefilthandthefury #19 6 years ago

It was removed on launch day. We didn't even get to open the shop before we were told to take it away :(
  • mingster #20 6 years ago

Sounds a bit more serious than just not putting 18 on the disc/cover.

I bet it was something more controversial. Like a rude word mistakenly being left in the manual.
  • binky #21 6 years ago

If there wasnt an 18BBFC on the disc label it is very likely thats the reason it was pulled. The fine would be more than the cost of reprint.

    Trust me... I know :s
  • The_Foo_Fighter #22 6 years ago

I reckon the printing error was in the code itself. Namely all of it.

*strokes illegal non-stamped with 18 cert X-Box copy*

Easy to get hold of when you know how!
  • gaara #24 5 years ago

LOL, the stupidest part is the fact theres ratings on the actual discs in the first place.

    *scoffs at EU standards*

Our Aussie discs dont seem to have ratings on them, probably a good thing though.
