New Silent Hill Collection
Coming to Europe too.
Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer that a new compilation titled The Silent Hill Collection is coming to Europe as well as the US.
It'll include Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4: The Room - but not the original PSone game. There's no word on a Euro release date as yet, but over in the States it's launching to coincide with the Silent Hill movie, which hits US cinemas on April 13th.
The film will be released in the UK on April 25th, so it's likely The Silent Hill Collection will go on sale some time around then. In the meantime, why not take a look at some spooky stills from the movie.

Considering that a trawl through eBay or the second hand bins will get you Silent Hill 2, 3 & 4 for less than £25 its got to have something to provide a buying incentive. I'm guessing a bonus disk related to the film or a lower price point with nice limited edition packaging like Silent Hill 2.

All that fog made it dead scary! Especially since you couldnt see the baddies, and could only hear the crackle getting louder as a way of warning you...

i.e. Youll find a newspaper article in a bin in SH2 that says something and the topic returns in SH4.

The Xbox version of SH2 has extra content, and the PS2 re-release has that content as well and (iirc) something else extra too.

SH2 and 4 then.

Edit:
You can still enjoy SH3 without playing the first one. There is cross-over stuff, but it's fully explained so you'd understand even if you started at SH2. I'd certainly choose SH3 over SH4, which isn't even a real Silent Hill game.

2 and 3 were ok, but despite the advance in the graphics they didn't come near no.1 for ideas and scary gameplay.
4....? I tried it, it was crap, I spent the money on something else.
So a compiliation of 2,3 &4 is, frankly mad and rubbish. But a next gen remake of SH1 would be the bees knockers. Yum!

But the second is still the best in my eyes as the story was very touching and human. The storyline is probably the best i've experienced in a game, and it has real depth

The story of 3 is best appreciated, and in my opinion only complete if you have played and have an understanding of the first one. Even tho, as you say, the story is explained, albeit briefly not "fully", there’s no way to fully understand the complexity of the story and the emotional states of the protagonists without an understanding their pasts.
Its like coming into a movie with only 10 minutes left on its runtime, and reading a brief synopsis of a cinema movie guide.
I'd also argue that even tho, “most people would balk at the graphics", for the measly amount of cash/effort that Konami would have to do to include it, I think that a lot more people would find it a most welcome addition.
Play 3 on its own if you must, but don't complain when you find the story confusing and/or lacking... and as I seem to recall was an issue with a lot of reviewers around the time it first came out…

Personally I prefer Sildent Hill 2. I just really liked the story and characters the best. Even though I'm at the end of SH4 and got to the final boss (but did have enough ammo to defeat it) on SH3, I still think I'll buy this. I'm a Silent Hill fanatic and anything that gives me the excuse to play through them all again is good enough for me. BTW there any news on Silent Hill 5?

SH2 was awesome as well(The 'added' features of the Director's Cut and Xbox versions really were pointless though). SH3 was very good, although the 'horror' wasn't quite as apparent as the previous games, not really enough scares or tension for my liking.
SH4 was just utter shit.

I doubt Konami'd still have inventory to draw on for the SH1's though, so they'd probably need to be repressed. That costs. Also when's it likely that the last playstation disc was made? If Sony have stopped manufacturing the consoles, then why would the PS software plants still be online?
The boxart (which doesn't appear to be a mere placeholder) does have a red strip on the front which states that the collection includes all the ps2 titles in the series, so no-one should be confused.
I agree with your point though that the playstation original would indeed have been a welcome inclusion.
