New Silent Hill Collection

Coming to Europe too.

Konami has confirmed to Eurogamer that a new compilation titled The Silent Hill Collection is coming to Europe as well as the US.

It'll include Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3 and Silent Hill 4: The Room - but not the original PSone game. There's no word on a Euro release date as yet, but over in the States it's launching to coincide with the Silent Hill movie, which hits US cinemas on April 13th.

The film will be released in the UK on April 25th, so it's likely The Silent Hill Collection will go on sale some time around then. In the meantime, why not take a look at some spooky stills from the movie.

I would buy this if it had the first one. Idiot people.

I wonder what sort extras the package will have to sweeten the deal.

Considering that a trawl through eBay or the second hand bins will get you Silent Hill 2, 3 & 4 for less than £25 its got to have something to provide a buying incentive. I'm guessing a bonus disk related to the film or a lower price point with nice limited edition packaging like Silent Hill 2.

What irks me, is it's probably include some extras people who owns them already will want to have. Anyway, am i the only one who's started loosing interest in Silent Hill. The first two were equally brilliant, but the 3 and 4 didn't top 2 in anything but Graphics

The Movie looks good though, better then other Video game movies i've seen anyway

No thank you. Why not a remake of Silent Hill 1 though for the next gen consoles ... that would be ace. The movis looks very promising though.

What made silent hill 1 good was the low draw distance caused by the lack of power in the ps1.

All that fog made it dead scary! Especially since you couldnt see the baddies, and could only hear the crackle getting louder as a way of warning you...

SH2 ftw! One of the best games ever made, for any platform.
  • Xerx3s #8 6 years ago

Now if they would include SH1... Or make SH3 for the xbx.... Oh well, guess that ill spend me money on something else then.
  • Tomo #9 6 years ago

Sigh... I'd have bought this also, having never played any really. But, with no SH1 there is bugger all point in a collection. Silly, silly people.
  • Furbs #10 6 years ago

How much of SH2 do you miss out on if you have no idea of the storyline for SH1?
  • Colonelkurtz #11 6 years ago

Nothing at all, that's what's so great. Silent hill 2 has one of the strongest stories in a video game ever, and the only thing in common wit the first one is the The town, the fog and the gameplay. But i'd reccomend just buying that one, as it's the best in all departments.
  • Xerx3s #12 6 years ago

SH2 is great. In fact, the added content on the xbx versions makes it a must have. its also alot of fun to see small details that connect the games together.

i.e. Youll find a newspaper article in a bin in SH2 that says something and the topic returns in SH4.
  • Furbs #13 6 years ago

Ah coolies, I thought they had more than just incidentals in common. I'll have to dig out the Xbox version I bought years ago then and actually play it :p
  • Blerk #14 6 years ago

Silent Hill 3 is the direct sequel to Silent Hill. Silent Hill 2 is more of a 'side-story' and you don't need to have played the first one in order to appreciate it.

The Xbox version of SH2 has extra content, and the PS2 re-release has that content as well and (iirc) something else extra too.

whats the point in having SH3 without 1?... fools

I'll wait for 5 thankyou konami.

Ah thats a shame :( The SH3 visuals on the PC look amazing but if I'm gonna miss out on the plot (I'm very anal like that) I'd not bother, even in the bargain bins :(

    SH2 and 4 then.
  • Blerk #17 6 years ago

I surmise they left SH1 out because it's a PSOne game and most people would balk at the graphics these days. But you can get it second hand for less than a fiver, just buy it separately.

    Edit:
You can still enjoy SH3 without playing the first one. There is cross-over stuff, but it's fully explained so you'd understand even if you started at SH2. I'd certainly choose SH3 over SH4, which isn't even a real Silent Hill game.

Silent Hill 1 was, and is, one of my favourite games of all time. Ultra creepy, involving, wonderful and just utterly superb. The fog, and the radio, and the shifting realities, all added up to be something the sequels only wish they could be.

2 and 3 were ok, but despite the advance in the graphics they didn't come near no.1 for ideas and scary gameplay.

4....? I tried it, it was crap, I spent the money on something else.

So a compiliation of 2,3 &4 is, frankly mad and rubbish. But a next gen remake of SH1 would be the bees knockers. Yum!

I'l admit the Silent hill 1 was the scariest. Otherworld school was crazy, and when i went into the bathroom where you heard the crying girl, i almost lost it.

But the second is still the best in my eyes as the story was very touching and human. The storyline is probably the best i've experienced in a game, and it has real depth

The bit in SH1 where there's a thumping locker, you open it and find nothing, and then turn around and another locker opens and a body falls in front of you made me jump out of my seat, hehe.
  • Colonelkurtz #22 6 years ago

I had that part ruined for me by my moron classbuddy, so i was prepared. But i'l always wondered what happened to that cat

    Have to disagree there, Blerk

The story of 3 is best appreciated, and in my opinion only complete if you have played and have an understanding of the first one. Even tho, as you say, the story is explained, albeit briefly not "fully", there’s no way to fully understand the complexity of the story and the emotional states of the protagonists without an understanding their pasts.

Its like coming into a movie with only 10 minutes left on its runtime, and reading a brief synopsis of a cinema movie guide.

I'd also argue that even tho, “most people would balk at the graphics", for the measly amount of cash/effort that Konami would have to do to include it, I think that a lot more people would find it a most welcome addition.

Play 3 on its own if you must, but don't complain when you find the story confusing and/or lacking... and as I seem to recall was an issue with a lot of reviewers around the time it first came out…
  • lasermink #24 6 years ago

Or when THAT telephone rang ... SH1 wins for sure.
  • Mr_Brown #25 6 years ago

Would have to agree with that. SH3 is a good game without any knowledge of previous story, but what made it a great game for me is its links with SH1. Being a huge fan of the series and I have completed (almost) all the games I was familiar on where the characters fitted in and it was just great to see what happened to them all.

Personally I prefer Sildent Hill 2. I just really liked the story and characters the best. Even though I'm at the end of SH4 and got to the final boss (but did have enough ammo to defeat it) on SH3, I still think I'll buy this. I'm a Silent Hill fanatic and anything that gives me the excuse to play through them all again is good enough for me. BTW there any news on Silent Hill 5?
  • tengu #26 6 years ago

Silent Hill 1 wins for me because it was the first time I'd ever felt a real atmosphere of horror in a game like that, nothing else had ever come close to the atmosphere of that game, and very few games in recent years have managed to come any closer tbh.

SH2 was awesome as well(The 'added' features of the Director's Cut and Xbox versions really were pointless though). SH3 was very good, although the 'horror' wasn't quite as apparent as the previous games, not really enough scares or tension for my liking.

    SH4 was just utter shit.
  • Machetazo #27 6 years ago

Not that fussed about the movie stills, thanks. But good news that this collection has been confirmed by Konami. The pack will be ideal for me, as I have SH but haven't yet gotten round to playing the later games in the series.

I doubt Konami'd still have inventory to draw on for the SH1's though, so they'd probably need to be repressed. That costs. Also when's it likely that the last playstation disc was made? If Sony have stopped manufacturing the consoles, then why would the PS software plants still be online?

The boxart (which doesn't appear to be a mere placeholder) does have a red strip on the front which states that the collection includes all the ps2 titles in the series, so no-one should be confused.
I agree with your point though that the playstation original would indeed have been a welcome inclusion.

New Silent Hill Collection, but not for the xbox of course. because konami could not be bothered to release silent hill 3 for it, now there going to miss out on extra sales FOOLS! mind you, how hard would it be to port no 3 to the xbox?
  • Colonelkurtz #29 6 years ago

As said before, you need to play Silent hill 1 to really enjoy SH3 and that's why they skippped if for the Xbox, as Xbox ovners was less likely to have played it.
  • yorkiebar #30 6 years ago

Have just completed "Condemned" on the 360 and, bar the puzzles (which were crap) its probably the best survival horror I've played since SH1. It's how SH should be done - in fact, if Konami are planning SH5 they should take a good look at Condemed and do it that way, only with decent puzzles and that weird dimension shifting shit. That'd be great!
  • Blerk #31 6 years ago

iirc, you can get the full scripts for Silent Hill 1 from GameFAQs. Might be an idea to read through them if you want to play SH3 without bothering with SH1? But like I said before, you can get a copy of the original for peanuts these days. Check your second hand buckets or eBay.
