Perfect Dark demo released

It's now available on Xbox Live.

Microsoft has released a new playable demo for Xbox 360 shooter Perfect Dark Zero.

You can download it now from Xbox Live Marketplace, for no money at all, but make sure you've got plenty of free space on your hard drive - the demo weighs in at just over 860MB.

It includes the Outpost mission, which you can play solo or with a friend, either using splitscreen or over Xbox Live. The demo also features a new multiplayer map, which goes under the name of Plaza.

Perfect Dark Zero is out now. And has been for, ooh, ages, as it goes.

    0.8GB?!

    /me falls over

I say: save yourself the anguish - and the disk space - and just buy one of the plethora of copies overflowing from the secondhand bins at your nearest game store.

At the rate these demoes are going at, the Xbox 360's disk space is going to be used up uber quickly...by demos....

Good thing that MS is going to have background downloading eh?

You do realise disk space is reusable, right?

sure i know you can delete it, but say come Oct - Dec when there's around 10 - 15 games that you really want (like every year) and you want to sift through over hyped crap from the ones that have substance, nearly one gig a pop is going to be a hell lot of time downloading.... and deleting... and downloading some more.

it's going to be less hurtful with background downloading.

is this worth the eons it will take to download or what?!?

Thats eons without being able to do jack shit on my 360 as well*

(and it will moo like a cow the whole time)

    *Why is this?!
  • Mr_Whacker #9 6 years ago

Not until background downloading thanks. I got TR Legend demo last night and waited 2 hours for it and finished the demo in 20 mins. That could have been Oblivion time.
  • Mr_Bogus #10 6 years ago

The part that annoys me is how a < 5MB PC shareware download from popcap is 35MB on xbox.
  • #11 6 years ago

I still have the FNR3 demo on my 360 and it gets pulled out every now and again, so dravenclarke isn't completely right.
I think I get some of what Xiphos, but I did just sink half a pint...

PDZ is shit. Don't worry about this one. Get Kameo instead for some 360 launch lineup 'nostalia'. PDZ is shit by the way.

Oh and PDZ is shit - did I mention that? For a tiny subset of why I think this is, go to the news article about the Hitman: Blood Money demo (for 360) which was posted recently.

Your 360 is secretly one of those mechs from the MGS4 trailer. Escape while you still can!

I downloaded the Hitman Blood Money demo last night and it only took about 25 min for it to finish downloading. I think that's not a long time to wait to play a brand new demo of a game that's just been released. But of course it will be better when the update that enables background downloading comes out. Then i can play a Xbox Live Arcade while the demo downloads.

For people who complain about slow dowloading from the marketplace:

Get a faster broadband connection. The download speed has more to do with your broadband connection the Microsofts servers.

A faster broadband connection is better for playing games on Live also. It means a lot less lag or no lag at all. And that alone is worth paying the extra money a faster broadband connection costs.

Er... 4mb Download speed (NTL), 4 hours download for avarage 360 demo

    work that one out?!
  • bumgut #15 6 years ago

Presumably for less lag on Live you need a good upload bandwith as well as download, so there is no bottleneck.

People seem to forget this. Do any broadband companies give a more even weighted download/upload ratio so people can host bigger games on their xbox?

PDZ isn't shit... it's just not awesome. It's really tiring how any game which fails to live up to an AAA+ standard is denounced as being worse than the apocalypse - people need to get a sense of perspective.
  • S.J.Rogers #17 6 years ago

I have a 2mb NTL connection and i have no lag and it only toot me about 25 mins for the Hitman demo..

This download is late, but it also makes sense. Out of the first batch of Xbox 360 owners, everyone that was ever reasonably predisposed to buying this game has it now. So, with the increasing availability of the Xbox 360 and the relative age of the game, this is a way of inducing awareness amongst the Johnny-come-lately's that will, for Rare, hopefully spark off a wave of new sales.

Right then time to put on the flameproof pants, and break the status quo. Ahem...

PDZ is nowhere near as bad as people say, in fact it is very good. The animation system and weapons are AAA. So too is the games intensity and pace on the harder difficulty levels. Oh and it has one of the best soundtracks of any game.

The graphics are typical Rare very Nintendo-ish but I don't think anyone can say they are bad, the choice to bump map everything was a bad choice. But the weapon models are some of the best ever.

I think people who have problems with PDZ are gamers that prefer the open combat scenarios of games like Halo and Far Cry. Where as PDZ does the British FPS approach compact, intense re-playable levels like Timsplitters.

Oh and the AI is a bit crap but again no more than GRAW with its squad members that hang about in the open to be killed and final boss that likes to kill himself to save you the trouble of completing the game.

For a decent upload/download speeds check out pipex,

I'm sure they built a lot of the UK's infastructure so they know what their doing

(this is second hand info so i might be wrong)

Any way i rarely get lag and dowloaded hitman demo in 25 - 30 mins and its only 2mg, so they must be doing something wright.

"Not for me matey. 10 meg and slow as fuck downloading."

"Er... 4mb Download speed (NTL), 4 hours download for avarage 360 demo"

What providers are you using, del trotter's broadband plc?

Aslo PDZ was the perfect launch title, by that i mean it looked really good on the back of the box ;)

Nah, it's pretty much a known issue the shocking download speeds on Live. Seems to depend on a mixture of:

    time of day
    provider
    what just got released

Has nothing to do with connection speed at all. I can consistently saturate my 10mb line downloading from US ftp servers, but Live still sometimes takes -forever- for something that should by rights take 5 minutes. During E3 the Lost Planet demo took 5 hours to download. That's just stupid. Then MotoGP came out, and it was down in half an hour. Smells like capacity problems to be quite honest, or a peering bottleneck.
  • Syrette #22 6 years ago

    I quite like it.

Sure it's nothing as amazing as we would have hoped, but it's fun and a nice but average game.

    8/10 sound about right?

    Everything is shiney
    The weapons are lazily designed
The levels are annoying, even in co-op
The blue/yellow arrows don't work half the time
    Every enemy looks the same
Every character looks like they are floating
In crouch your head goes through the laser beam
Everything is really, really shiney even sand or snow
The controls handle terribly and are badly mapped, with no customisable option (hit on the 'b' button - what - so I can't turn and hit?
An uzi that just happens to project a hologram; a FAMAS that just ahppens to make you invisible etc etc - lazy lazy lazy.
Oh look it's the same guy I've killed like 100 times already.
Oh great I can't get through that door that the blue arrows are pointing through
Oh great, I have no idea where to go again
Despite the plethora of options for on-line play, it is ultimatley crippled by the controls.

I could go on. Suffice to say I played this recently over Live with a friend (co-op) and we vowed never to play it again. Trust me, don't waste the bandwidth!

8/10!! Are you going by Official xbox magazine standards of EG standards? By EG I'd say 5-6/10. 6/10 if I was being generous.
