Starbreeze next-gen video

Spotlight on The Darkness.

Chronicles of Riddick developer Starbreeze has released a teaser trailer for its PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 project The Darkness, based on the Top Cow comic of the same name, which was on display at E3 last week.

The trailer is available from Eurofiles here and weighs in at 150MB odd. You can find smaller versions and QuickTime variants on the Starbreeze website.

For those with no knowledge of the comic [that's you and I both then -Ed], it sees hitman Jackie Estacado is betrayed by his boss Uncle Paulie and then, to his advantage, possessed by a demonic power known as The Darkness, which gives Jackie various powers. "The story revolves around Jackie and Paulie fighting over the future of the Francetti family, and of Jackie's search for light and love in a dark and violent world," we're told.

The trailer, meanwhile, revolves around some nasty-looking creatures crawling over a detailed city block with Riddick-plus level graphics that show off some lovely textural detail and animation, as light sources are crushed on the way to the roof, where Jackie is revealed in full trenchcoat and tentacles mode.

Given the quality of Riddick, possibly our favourite first-person action game on Xbox, we'll be keeping a close eye on the Swedish developer's next-gen output.

He was born with the Darkness not possessed by it. It's passed on generation to generation. He can't produced a child because he will die at conception and the boy (I think it's only boys) will then grow up with the Darkness.

    Come on guys, facts straight.

Riddick fan here, though I think there's room for Halo and Riddick lovin' in my (x)box....

I wonder how Riddick looks on a decent pc gaming rig? xbox wasn't bad, but you still have to put up with a controller over mouse+keyboard of course, and a blurry TV.
