SCi/Eidos takes on Conan

MMO co-publishing deal signed.

It may not feature the 1980's "charm" of Arnold Schwarzenegger's acting, but Conan and his barbaric adventuring style is definitely heading to PCs next year thanks to a co-publishing deal between Funcom and SCi/Eidos.

Putting "strong faith in the sales potential" of the MMO title, SCi/Eidos will publish the boxed product of Age of Conan - Hyborian Adventures, while Funcom get to keep the digital distribution rights and fill their coffers with subscription fees.

Under the terms of the deal, SCi/Eidos will distribute the game throughout North America, Europe, South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, and the game is slotted in for a release some time between March and May 2007.

Funcom will be taking care of operating the servers, providing customer service and generally managing the MMO, and both companies are said to be collaborating on bringing the game to consoles at some point in the not too distant future.

I wonder what the level grind for that'll be like. Sit behind a table, endlessly talking to NPCs. Will that work? ;)

The only problem I see is that this game actually looks and sounds interesting. Subject material aside, of course, Conan has been a bit of a laughing stock in recent years (Hands up if you were unfortunate enough to play the last Conan game? You have my sympathies).

Still, it's coming into a market that is dominated by WoW... which as has been proven, is no easy competition...

Anyone else remember the 8-bit Atari/C64 Conan game from Datasoft? The Atari version coder then went on a did that awesome Bruce Lee game.

    Why is it still SCi/Eidos?

tell me we're not going to have another infogramesnotatari on our hands.

I did play that recent Conan game. It wasn't that bad, I've played much worse, but I couldn't be bothered to play it beyond a couple of sessions. That said, this online Conan does sound interesting

Teh first film with Arnie was class.

    "What is good in life?"

"To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you and to hear the lamentations of their women."

    Hehe.

    Brutal,

I think you are spot on. Eidos are really a sunken ship, and with all the magic of the world, could shoebox budget SCi turn around Eidos legacy IP?

Infogrames/Atari at least, knew how to burn money, maybe too well!
