D&D Online free trial

Role around for seven days.

Turbine's inviting MMO fans to try out Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach for seven days free of charge.

The free trial, which you can sign-up for it trial.ddo.com, allows you to build up a character for seven days and then lets you continue with that character in the full game if you decide to buy it.

D&DO, released in March, is a heavily instanced massively-multiplayer effort in which team-play - specifically, playing the role of your chosen character - is of paramount import.

Experience is accrued by besting entire dungeons, rather than by simply knocking off as many enemies as possible - although combat itself is a bit more involved than the usual click-auto-die routine prevalent in games of its type - and while soloing is virtually impossible for more than a couple of training missions, we reckoned it was well worth persisting with a trio of allies.

The seven-day trial's a good way to find out if you agree - and to find out how the game runs on your PC, which our reviewer felt might be an issue for those with mid-range hardware.

Apparently this trial is only for people who reside in the USA.

yeah, you're right. the page the article links to clearly states "north america only".

eurogamer, you need to fire your researcher. i suggest, from the book of sir alan, "your're a lightweight, you're FIRED".

    yay.

Wow, Turbine must be getting desperate if they are releasing a free trial 6 weeks after launching the title. They should just scrap DDO and concentrate on LoTRO.

Once you've run through all the content in the game, what are you supposed to do with the last 3 days of your free trial?

I liked the beta, although I didn't play it long. The game seemed pretty polished. I got a friend in America to sign me up for the trial so I guess I have little to lose by giving it another whirl.

I'm not sure what difference this being a US trial is supposed to make - I signed up (with an email address at a .co.uk provider, at that) and it didn't ask me for address details or anything, and works absolutely fine. Obviously you'd have to start again with characters on the UK servers if you carried on the trial after the 7 days were up, but if you just want to give the game a try and are aware you won't be able to keep your characters there's no point in waiting for a European trial.

On the other hand, what I've played of this so far is diabolical, so you might not want to bother.

"combat itself is a bit more involved than the usual click-auto-die routine prevalent in games of its type"

I am always amused by this type of comment, because certainly on WoW if you take this approach you will do pretty badly
