DOAX returns

More sports, more boobs.

Tecmo is working on a sequel to Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball, according to Team Ninja lead Tomonobu Itagaki, which will include several sports besides volleyball and retain its focus on "customisation and collection". Apparently that was the focus last time, too.

DOAX2 (working title) currently runs on Xbox behind the scenes, but development will be moved over to Xbox 360 according to a report on IGN, and the game will feature better graphics and physics (for both balls and breasts, we imagine).

Indeed, IGN also tells us that the game will feature more of the DOA babes for us to ogle, or at least mutter about disapprovingly.

Online play also seems likely given Microsoft's current stance on it and Tecmo's much acclaimed use of Xbox Live with Dead or Alive Ultimate.

We weren't all that fond of Dead or Alive Xtreme Beach Volleyball around here, as you might have gathered, but we're prepared to give Itagaki-san the benefit of the doubt given Team Ninja's obvious quality in other areas. Let's just hope it's broader focus makes for a game slightly less focused on broads.

    I actually kinda enjoyed it.

    Once you get teh controls down its one of the best uses of the Xbox's analouge buttons.

    Plus I just loved shopping squeeee

    The controls were really mincy on the face buttons, analogue face buttons are just cumbersome (with me on the pad, anyhow)... but I quite enjoyed DOAXBV for its summer, Crazy Taxi style open-the-window-and-feel-the-sun-get-a-cold-drink-and-enjoy(tm) ease of play and summery feel good themes. (And the award for worst constructed sentence apart from something inside Cube magazine goes toooo)

    I think they're just upset that in Rumble Roses, Konami managed to release a game that was even more lecherous and had an even worse plot than theirs did, so they're out to get their title back.

    Forget about the Tecmo cash cow game DOAXBV and try this one "Beach Spikers" (Cube) is easily the best and most underrated volleyball game. Tecmo can't touch SEGAs arcade volleyball implementation even if they tried.

    (It's probably dirt cheap too cause it was a Cube release title)

    sorry, had to get that outa the system and is the first word that comes to mind when I think of this game. Wonder if we'll ever see a PS3 release? ............... probably not :o(

    MrGrumpy: DOAXBV is not about volleyball. True, volleyball is in the game, but so are slot machines and you'd hardly call it a casino simulator, would you?

    I have no doubt that Beach Spikers is a superior beach volleyball game, but that's all rather irrelevant, isn't it?

    Jokes aside, DOAX on the Xbox was great fun, and I look forward to seeing the sequel in action.

    Plus, it doesn't hurt that the game is centred around hot chicks wearing next to nothing and jumping up and down.

    God, even THINKING about the game gives me an erection o_O

    Graeme_N - The main premise of the game is to get credits and build a relationship by playing volleyball though. The casino, poolside, shops and hotel room is just trying to make a shallow volleyball game look deeper.

    In arcade mode you can only play volleyball, you cannot go to the casino and poolside so I'd say that volleyball is the major component of the entire game experience.

    For myself the best bit of the entire game is the prototype videos of DOA2 and Ninja Gaiden just to see how far Team Ninjas game engine has evolved.

    Anyhow no doubt it will look good as all Tecmo games do, it's just not my cup of tea.

    MrGrumpy: True, volleyball may be the main component of the game, but it's not really what the game is about.

    I understand what you're saying, and I actually agree with you, but I just wanted to point out that it's pretty pointless trying to make a rational argument to a potential DOAXBV buyer (which I'm not, by the way).

    I like it myself, simple and fun and a cheery atmosphere. Strangely enough my sister likes it as well, and I think that is because it is so simple but rewarding to play.
