C&C3 heads to Xbox 360

Microsoft gets the NOD.

Electronic Arts has revealed that Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars is coming to Xbox 360 as well as PC next year.

In other words, following on from critical success with The Lord of the Rings, The Battle for Middle-earth II, which appeared on Xbox 360 earlier this year, EA's decided that you white-padded peon-movers are worthy of some more RTS.

There's not much being said about the conversion yet, but it sounds like it will share all of its partner PC version's characteristics - including Xbox Live play, and EA's promising it will be "one of the most robust titles on Xbox Live" with "a steady stream of downloadable content on Marketplace". (Or on the disc, or something. Wink.)

You can find some early screenshots elsewhere on the site, along with lots of info on the game and the voice cast, featuring everyone from Billy Dee Williams to Sawyer out of Lost.

Good...though how different will it be from the previous C & C's?

C&C3 on 360? OMFG yes please... And while you're at it can I have some new pants?

"Good...though how different will it be from the previous C & C's?"

Who cares? Westwood own my soul...

Westwood may own your soul but EA owns Westwood. So we should expect a steady stream of rip off downloads for things probally in the pc game for free.

I really hope EA dont mess this up!
  • Kostabi #5 6 years ago

'tis a shame it probably won't allow for PC vs 360 play.

"Westwood may own your soul but EA owns Westwood"

Dammit, I KNEW I should have leased it to them instead... If they do (and they probably will) charge for stuff that is in the PC version gratis, I warn you I may cry like a baby...

They REALLY need to bring out a USB mouse for this. I just can't get my head around playing RTS - especially next gen with more units etc - using a control pad. My limited go on BFME 360 made me realise how essential it is.
  • lennon #8 6 years ago

It might allow cross platform play. There are a couple of cross platform games in thw works at the minute so more will surely follow.

    Great News...

I cant wait as this will be ace on xbox live.

Did i say (ACE) must of gone back in time too 1988 Radical..!
  • Batman2100 #10 6 years ago

Is the BFME control mech. really that bad? It's on my buy list, haven't got round to it yet...
  • kmittal82 #11 6 years ago

Seriously, a USB mouse cannot be that difficult to make for the 360!! I think to enjoy the beauty that is C&C, u need a mouse.

Take note MS, you already have a customer wiating to buy a rediculously simple peripheral for a over-the-top price...
  • Beano #12 6 years ago

    Great :)

The controls in ROTR:BFME2 were fine but hurt by the sloppy PC->360 convertion which made the controls seem sluggish.
  • revlob #13 6 years ago

Oh Tom, how you slay us with your puns.

Ew[link url=http://www....]http://www....[/link] Lack... of... mouse... must... avoid!

I still have the most horrible memories of C&C Retaliation for the PSX. It was an excercise in botched interface design.

Edit: This post form raped my comment. How do I sue? Or better yet, mine for fish?

    OMG!!

    /head turns

Hang on!! since when did EA do console exclusives!?!

That is the correct term right?

If MS don't release a mouse eventually I am looking at hacking something up with an old mouse and spare 360 controller.. it CAN be done (somehow) ;)
  • bonker #18 6 years ago

I haven't C&C'd since the original on the PC all those years back but I played LOTR on the 360 this year and it was crap and actually diabolical in places ...
  • Shrimp #19 6 years ago

What is it that makes people think they can plug a mouse into a 360 and suddenly a game's user interface code will suddenly reprogram itself to use that instead of a pad?
  • Inquisitor #20 6 years ago

Everyone could see this coming a mile away. LoTR was pretty obviously done mainly as a test to see how viable the 360 would be as an RTS machine.

Strangely enough I've never played a C&C game, infact the only strategy games I've played have been cossacks, dune and sim city!
  • rudedudejude #21 6 years ago

This will suck, EA have lost their touch with strat games but no doubt all the console heads will love it.

BFME2 sucked on the pc so I don't even want to imagine it on the 360.
  • Der_tolle_Emil #22 6 years ago

It has EA on its cover. I guess that's the catch.

Would be nice to see the game having support for USB mice as well. But still I would get (I wanted to write buy, but who knows what that means with EA titles today) it for the PC. Xbox Live is great but I doubt it is good enough for RTS titles. Especially because the userbase will be a lot smaller than on PC.

Nevertheless, nice to see RTS games heading to consoles once more. Even if by EA.
  • coojam #23 6 years ago

Command and Conquer on 360 needs mouse support? Pfffftttttt....did you even PLAY Red Alert on PS1? It was the bees knees. Sure, it's easier with a mouse, but that doesn't make it better.
  • SeesThroughAll #24 6 years ago

No PS3 version? Rot in hell, EA.
  • smoison #25 6 years ago

I guess the 'Wii' looses a potential game here cause of its lack of power...

But the best way to play will still be on PC... and a SWEET 8800 GTX!
  • gaselite #26 6 years ago

    What a delightful byline
  • Der_tolle_Emil #27 6 years ago

I never had a playstation. I can imagine the earlier c&c titles to be a lot mor accessible without a mouse because you have the buildings/units bar on the right. That eliminates the need to scroll around. As far as I know, c&c 3 comes without this bar making it necessary to scroll a lot.

Besides, why not take advantage of mouse support if you already have a USB port.
  • SeesThroughAll #28 6 years ago

Yes, would have been great, just point to the screen. Best replacement for the mouse, especially with a large screen.

In my opninion, BFME2 on the XBox 360 had some good ideas for the control scheme of RTS games on consoles, but it was undermined by poor framerates and corresponding sluggish controls in the situations where you needed control the most. Another big issue was that it was very hard to keep track of where all your units were, because the camera didn't zoom out very far, and the mini-map was largely unusable. Still, I would love to play more RTS games on XBox Live...

I wonder what EA is going spew out for downloadable content

    100 points = 10,000 ingame money
200 points = unlocks orbital laser cannon instead of waiting to get it
800 points = fuck up multiplayer by making unbalanced unless you pay
  • coojam #31 6 years ago

Maybe mini expansions ala Battlefield 2 (PC)

Useless without a wireless mouse imo. :\
  • Horstachio #34 6 years ago

    A mouse???

I don't know, I'm playing from my laid back couch.
So you roll the mouse on the couch? on your leg?
And with the other hand you type on a wireless keyboard?
Balancing the keyboard on your lap?

And ... what if, your nose gets itchy?

I say, give me a Microsoft WPD any day of the week (Wireless Pointing Device - which is in my dreams a straight copy of the Wiimote)

And, on my other hand ... a Microsoft Legboard (I'm feeling creative today), which is half a keyboard that you can strap to one of your legs, kind of a front trouser pocket, but with a few buttons.

"They REALLY need to bring out a USB mouse for this. I just can't get my head around playing RTS - especially next gen with more units etc - using a control pad."

Makes me wonder if one of the potentially big hits on the Wii would be some kind of RTS spin-off of Advance Wars/Batallion Wars.

"I guess the 'Wii' looses a potential game here cause of its lack of power... "

Not really, the extra power on the 360 and PS3 is used entirely for graphics. You don't need anything more powerful than a Wii for the actual gameplay of an RTS.

After the horrible abortion that was C&C2, I find that I really don't care much any more. Besides. all the Westwood guys left them.

    C&C XBLA instead, please.

Never heard of things like physics, unit count, unit AI, enemy AI and the size of a single map? I can't imagine an rts on a console, it's dumbed down no matter which way you look at it.
  • Rambaldi #38 6 years ago

"I can't imagine an rts on a console, it's dumbed down no matter which way you look at it."

Get over it dude. The only link in the chain missing is the mouse. 360 and PS3 have got USB ports y'know. It's not unthinkable that at some point they may be used in certain games.

What'cha going to get precious about on yer PC then eh?
