Titan Quest demo

Hackandslash of the titans.

THQ and Iron Lore Entertainment have released a playable demo of upcoming PC hackandslash Titan Quest.

It's available now on Eurofiles, weighing in at a mighty 474MB, and features the first two quests from the main storyline.

It also has three skill masteries (Warfare, Earth and Hunting) and a level cap of six to take into consideration. Iron Lore recommends a 3GHz system with a 1GB RAM and a 128MB super-sexy graphics card to get the most out of the game, although presumably it'll run on less than that.

And if you fancy learning a bit more about Titan Quest while you wait for it to download, you can check out our interview with Iron Lore's co-founder Brian Sullivan.

The full game's due out this summer.

Great demo, absolutely loving it. It's a Diablo 2 clone, of course, but the best by far. That it's not easy to reproduce the magical quality of Diablo 2 has been shown by all the less than great clones in the past, but this one here is simply spot on.

I played the demo a few nights ago and wasn't too impressed to be honest. I'm a big Diablo 2 fan though so perhaps I'm just noticing all the differences and perceiving them as problems but there were a lot of little things that annoyed me in the demo. Most of the skills in the skill trees (certainly the offense one) seems to be passive, with very few skills you actually use. I'd worry that the game would just become a clickfest, whereas at least in D2 you usually had a few skills you used frequently. I also didn't like that all the main windows totally obscure the middle of the screen (where your character is) without pausing the game, so you can't really bring up a screen mid-combat like you can in D2.

I guess really I'm just looking for a D2 remake/sequel, but I still think Titan Quest is flawed. The grass effects are nice though.

Kazzahadrane, in the full game, you'll be able to mix two (iirc) different skill trees, so you'll have a broader variety than in D2, and the number of active spells should match those of a D2 char.

Your other concerns are pretty minor, if I dare say so. What's important is that, in my opinion, the general "feel" of the game is just spot on. Hacking and slashing is just as satisfying as it was in D2. :)

I couldn't believe how quickly I got bored of this. Walk into an idetikit generic village, have a few NPCs shout random generic story stuff at you, then click the mouse on an enemy untill it falls over. I can sort of see the appeal of certain parts but for me this one's a nightmare. At least now I can probably scratch Diablo of my 'Games I haven't played but really should list' :D

Hehe, no, if you can't appreciate the infinite beauty of the simplicity of this kind of game, Diablo definitely isn't for you. ;)

Actually I haven't seen any mention of multiplayer in the full game, co-op or otherwise. Can anyone enlighten me?

Coop - yes (don't know for how many players). No PvP.
