New Monkey Ball Wii details News

Wii News by Tom Bramwell

14 September, 2006

SEGA has announced that Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz will see the introduction of two new characters - YanYan and Doctor.

YanYan's a "young, vivacious female monkey" apparently, while Doctor is "an older monkey with a past steeped in mystery due to his acute case of amnesia".

There's more to them than that though - as each will have particular strengths and weaknesses in acceleration, speed and jumping ability.

SEGA says the size of the monkey ball and its weight will also play a role in a character's performance in Banana Blitz, which introduces jumping - activated by flicking the remote or pressing a button - to the series for the first time.

The full game will also feature a huge number of mini-games, and is due out alongside the Nintendo Wii in Japan on December 2nd. For more, check out our E3 impressions.

BAH.

I had hoped the "jumping" part would consist of an actual physics-based reaction of the ball to you flicking the level upwards, and would allow you to basically juggle it around that way.

But if it's just gonna be a fucking jump button replacement then I'll be severely disappointed.

Fuck this. I'm going to play my goddamn SNES.

Amnesia is so common in games, but how common is it in real life?
