Mercury rising once again

Sequel to PSP puzzler coming.

Ignition has announced that a sequel to Archer Maclean's Mercury is coming to PSP this autumn, releasing some new screenshots into the bargain.

Mercury Meltdown, as it's titled, sees you taking control of a liquid mercury blob once again, avoiding all sorts of hazards and obstacles as you traverse a series of platforms.

The blob now has four different 'states' - Normal, Solid, Fast and Slow. Apparently this makes for bigger, more complex levels, and of course an even tougher challenge. But don't worry, we're promised "fairer game progression", too.

The game will feature more than 160 levels - that's twice the number in the previous title. And if that isn't enough, more levels will be available for download via YourPSP.com in the future.

Mercury Meltdown will also feature game sharing and a wi-fi multiplayer mode so two players can take each other on with five sub-games. It's out in September.

good game... now i just hope that lumines 2 actually adds more to gameplay with extra colours and other extras the mobile version has.

I got the impression the backdrops in L2 were now a bit more procedural. But it might have been a trick of the mpeg.

It doesn't, if this months Edge is correct. It adds fuck all except new music.

Damn it. I'm not really interested in fully animated or 3D backgrounds, that actually gets confusing instead of entertaining. Oh well, I still have lots of skins to unlock in the first one...

Not liking the semi-cel shading they've gone for in the sequel... Thought the design of the first title was just right for the game.

Agreed - not sure about the graphics. But more importantly, are they going to release the fabled tilt control with this one? They developed it for use with the first game but, for whatever reason, it was never released. However, I remember reading that they thought it might launch with the sequel, and that the first game would be backwards compatible.

EG - time for some of your finest investigative journalism please :o)

Need to see a review first but I am liking the graphical style. It may be overused recently but it suits the game I think. Hopefully they have got a more balanced selection of gameplay styles included.

Need to get LocoRoco first, then Mercury 2. Lumines 2 is a distant third. Lumines 1 still does its thing for me.
