DOA4 Xbox 360 shots?

Unconfirmed, but they look real.

Screenshots of what appears to be Dead or Alive 4 running on Xbox 360 have sneaked onto the Internet this afternoon. You can find them elsewhere on Eurogamer here.

As you'd expect given Tecmo's prowess with the original Xbox hardware, the level of detail is incredible. The shots retain the same deliberately unreal visual style that Tecmo's series is famous for, and a number of new characters and, of course, a boatload of new settings are visible.

Expect a lot more of this sort of stuff as the night draws on and we get closer to Microsoft's MTV unveiling of Xbox 360.

Ah, the ongoing comedy that is Mugwum trying to make the CMS do his bidding without having slept properly for roughly a fortnight :-)

Thumbnails would be good. I actually like the look of this...

Damn, what's happened to me? Nintendo Fanboi extraordinaire finds himself shying from DS, and considering PSP, as well as Revolution AND XBox360 AND PS3!!!

    I am shamed.

"Sometimes I wonder why Eurogamer don't post screenshots in the news area, like thumbnails..."

    Yeah :-(

It's just all a bit hectic at the moment or I'd try and bash it through in time for E3, but in the meantime I'm basically just doing these items to alert you to the stuff down the side. If I can do something about it though I will - we do need to do that at some point.

Of course, seasoned EG readers might just ignore the news feed and go "Uhuh, DOA4 shots" and yank on the mousewheel to find the actual shots on the left-hand column :-)

    "I am shamed."

No you're not, you're evolving from fan boy to a true games connouseir. Who cares what system the game is on, as long as it's good.

    Good spot...

I think the meh comments are coming from the fact that this is the third generation of consoles DOA will appear on, and nothing what so ever seems to have been changed.

It just looks like DOa with slightly better graphics, if you think about it in any other order 3 generation jumps held alot more changes than just slightly better graphics.
  • CrunchinJelly #10 7 years ago

Has Dead Or Alive ever been about anything other than the graphics, though?

Everyone knows it's not the best fighting series by a long shot.
  • toy_brain #11 7 years ago

Looks pretty, but nothing in those screenshots could be considered outside the scope of the current Xbox.
In fact, barring mabye one or two refinements - they look almost identical to those of DOAU.

I can't believe everyone is being so negative about these shots. They all look good enough to come out of a cutscene from Final Fantasy X or something. Also, if that picture of the fit blonde bloke with a sword in his hand is anything to go by, then perhaps one is permitted to use weapons! And perhaps there will be gore! And naked men! (Ok, now I'm being silly). And for everyone moaning about how DOA is not the "best fighting game series evaaaar" then I would be most grateful if you held your respective tounges until you actually PLAY the game.

The shots are good but as expected the next gen isn't doing anything new.
  • MrGrumpy.au #14 7 years ago

The current gen Xbox cannot do that sort of texture detail, the detail is amazing in those images (unless they tweaked them manually). But what's going to be interestiing is if the new Xbox is powerful enough to fix the annoying jagged flowing hair movement which plagued DOA3 & DOA2U.

About time they put Christie back in...

    Cheers

Probably just the usual launch game problems: rushed development. Woulden't surprise me if they just tweaked the DOA:U engine a bitt, made a few modifications to the characters, some new enviroments and boom there's your new game.
End up with something that looks fairly good but isn't pushing the hardware that much.

Looks lovely. Looks like DOA, but a bit nicer. That'll do me :)
  • Graeme_N #17 7 years ago

Shots look fantastic, but then, so did all the DOA3 shots that were released when the original Xbox was coming out. There's really not a lot more that they can do with this "deliberately unreal" visual style (not that I think a push towards photorealism would necessarily be a good thing). The real test will be to see it in motion, and see how well the characters interact with each other and their environment.

Static screens can be very deceptive; Tao Feng had excellent graphics, but the stilted animation let them down completely.

These are obviously real. Looks like Xenon is the final name? Any news from yesterday's program?

'Also, if that picture of the fit blonde bloke with a sword in his hand is anything to go by, then perhaps one is permitted to use weapons!'

    That's Helena...
  • Spiral #20 7 years ago

Damn double post and I can't delete it. Anyhoo, a later shot shows her fighting in her usual stance, so I don't think weapons are likely.

  • Graeme_N #21 7 years ago

Uh, Spiral, that's not Helena. First of all, it's clearly a guy (although a dreadfully girly guy), and that's not Helena's stance in the screenshot with Jann Lee. Helena leans forward over her outstretched leg, this guy is leaning back over his bent one.

Actually, I despair about Tecmo's character design. The whole series is becoming like the Barbie fighting game or something.
  • Juriel #22 7 years ago

The young (girly) guy does look VERY out of place, character design wise.
