Galaxies 14-day trial offer

Try Star Wars MMO for free.

Listen up, budding HanSolo892s! LucasArts is offering everyone the chance to try out Star Wars Galaxies and its Jump To Lightspeed expansion pack for 14 days.

The "enhanced trial" version offers all the content from both, and if you're still enjoying it once the 14 days are up you can pay to continue playing without having to download anything extra.

You might want to though, because anybody who converts to a paid-for account will receive a free copy of the Rage of the Wookiees expansion pack via download, along with an exclusive in-game item.

For more details and the zipfile of the game, head to the official website.

You'd have to pay me to play this post NGE :(

lol i remember it took me months each night grinding for bio engineer. sitting there clicking clicking clicking while watching films and chatting to friends. just to find people used clicker programs and did it in a week afk. of course using such programs is against the terms and conditions and can get you banned. I't also looked down upon by other player in game.

But then sony themselves remove the creature handler! Making the bio engineer totally redundent! well i quit well before any of this took place mind, got in an argument with their support staff and just uninstalled rather than pay them another months....

They've run this game into the ground.

(still im playing eq2 atm so who's the mug..)

What a great game this was; I'm so sad looking at the state of it now. ='[

Didn't try it pre-NGE, but I did post-NGE and walked away after a couple of hours. Boring, just boring.

shame lazer this mmo had a different approach to most other mmo's. linear levels were done out with and combination classes were used. hybrids and templates of the month were kinda born of this. and the fact you could respec your chara to anything. was a great idea. crafting was top too. loot drops were rare and normally crafting components tbh, and crafters really did have the rule of the game (too right too!) harvesting resource, player towns (we had a massive, well designed town) player housing. and you could group with any player, regardless of level and still both progress at a decent rate. oh and faction based pvp and player military bases.

but the down side was gimped missions, laggy starports, stupid inbalance in game with buffs combat medic riflemen overpowering any situation. and a complete lack of end game content.

the jedi whiners got their own way in the end, and ruined the game! they should have just had jedi as content npcs and quest mobs not playable classes.

I tried the 14-day trial a while ago. Truthfully... I never really saw the magic in this. Maybe I'm just not a Star Wars type of person...
  • skillian #9 5 years ago

It's not a patch on Hello Kitty's Island Adventure :D
  • Sko #10 5 years ago

All this talk of them ruining the game - for people who have never played SWG, you should be told it was an absolutely dreadful game to start with. Only Sony Online Entertainment could turn the Star Wars universe into "The Adventures of Burt, Space Brickie!".
  • Psi #11 5 years ago

lol skillian that was a great eps.

sko your right it was terrible to stat with, i remember playing at the american launch and scout xp could only be collected by one person...

it did start to come back after release only to be buggered up more and more.

    player towns were just great.

The game was released too soon. There used to be a good foundation to build on, but now it's in ruins. This game had so much potential but SOE/LA let the license draw in the crowds and neglected both the game and it's community for far too long.

    A real shame.

Agree with Psi - great game at release despite what many said. Currently trying out the new more structured game. It's clear that it's a game for the World of Warcraft crowd now with a line of missions that takes you around your starting planet and then off world to the others. You can still just go off to Endor for some hunting but you're missing out if you don't do it as part of a mission now. That's WoW gameplay!

The in game and player cities are now virtually empty apart from the cantinas. And even places like Mos Eisley medical centre are hardly used. And of course you can't go 10 secs - in a city without hearing the hum of a lightsaber, as someone chops down a few storm troopers, who are still underpowered.

But there is hope for SOE as many of the new players don't know any different and have never heard of Creature Handler or Pistoleer and so aren't bothered by their absence.

Agree 100%. There seems to be a bit of a revisionist history going on with SWG and the infamous NGE. It was even more crap before - that was the entire point of the revamp, subscription numbers were in the toilet and the game was slowly dropping down the bog of doom...
  • zam786 #16 5 years ago

thanks for this post i just found out this game is still on my hard drive eating 6.5 gbs time to unistall
  • Psi #17 5 years ago

yup MrAtheist it was, but there was still some hope they could fix and balance it. Then they turned it into jedi knight online.
  • Royal Fool #18 5 years ago

Uh-oh, it's the final days of SWG.
  • shamblemonkee #19 5 years ago

Balls! It was a great game for a while. You're entiitled to your opinion, but its wrong! ;)

  • yaroze #20 5 years ago

When Blizzard offer free trials for WoW it's really "because they can", although when I saw this I assume it's really "because they have to". It's a shame all the changes they made to the SWG system actually made many of their users leave...

ive just downloaded this - its gone to the startup screen but is taking like 5 hours to download! Is that the only way you can get the game?
  • rinoaMW #22 5 years ago

I just downloaded the trial, and I can't see why ppl are so negative about it. I have to say I’ve enjoyed it so far, its quite immersive, and especially meeting with Han Solo at the start. It really starts with a bang! The only thing that lets it down for me are the controls and camera. But being a huge star wars fan, i kinda like it. Oh and stuff being a Jedi, smuggler all the way! :)

  • superdelphinus #23 5 years ago

how did you download it? did it go to that screen and then start the update thing? it says its going to take 6 hours now :-(
  • rinoaMW #24 5 years ago

yeah - u have to wait for it to patch and update unfortunatly. It did take a while, even over my 8mb connection. You'll just have to leave it running and see what happens.
  • superdelphinus #25 5 years ago

so frustrating - why cant you just download the content normally - 4.5 gigs would take a lot less than 5 hours!?
