See Metroid DS in action

Over on Eurogamer TV.

If you're eagerly awaiting the arrival of Metroid Prime: Hunters on Nintendo DS this May, you might like to take a look at a bit of gameplay footage over on Eurogamer TV.

It only lasts for a minute or so, but at least you can get some idea of what weapons you'll be using and who you'll be shooting them with.

And while you're there, why not check out some of the other stuff currently on EG TV - there are new movies for The Outfit, The Con and Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, to name but a few.

Metroid Prime: Hunters is out on May 5th.

I cannot wait to play this game.
  • sharpfish #5 6 years ago

    looks mentally good!
  • Lynchman #6 6 years ago

Really hoping for a substantial single player game too, as with Mario Kart, 14 year old opponents get boring quick...
  • megastar #7 6 years ago

i read somewhere it can tell the difference between a lost connection, and somebody just turning it off coz theyre losing - which if you've ever played mario kart ds you'll know this is a bonus

basically if you turn off coz your losing it counts as a loss aparantly

It's supposed to have some sort of 'cred' points system, so if you are a quitter, others will be able to tell.
  • thegamesthething #9 6 years ago

reminds me of Turok 2 on the 64

So this is what the beautifully crafted Metroid series has become: button mashing.

    *sigh*
  • jack_klugman #11 6 years ago

    This looks uniquely brilliant.

Visually stunning and from the gameplay as twitchy as Quake deathmatch. I was sold long before this, but wow!
  • Blerk #12 6 years ago

Uh... Since when was Metroid a deathmatch-style FPS? It might look quite nice, but it doesn't look much like Metroid.
  • kenty #13 6 years ago

wow, looks great! has come a long way since the free demo that was bundled with my DS.
  • Latin #14 6 years ago

This looks like just the online multiplayer, the single player will be classic metroid don't you worry
  • dk_rare #15 6 years ago

I think I speak for 90 percent of the people here when I say

    Dude, schweet!

'Since when was Metroid a deathmatch-style FPS? It might look quite nice, but it doesn't look much like Metroid.'

Well Metroid has been a FPS for a while now - for at least two games on the Gamecube :)

And if you want to put that online, then you either have a deathmatch style scenario or a co-operative exploration type of game.

I am no fan of deathmatch games but I am certainly looking forward to the single player game.

Oh and Metroid pinball isn't as bad as you would think - its just a pinball game with Metroid plastered all over it. Which isn't that dissimilar to pinball games in pubs with various movie and TV themes.
  • Blerk #17 6 years ago

Mmm... I'd disagree. It was first-person and it had shooting, but it wasn't anything like that video.
  • dk_rare #18 6 years ago

Pssst! I don't think Blerk knows that multiplayer versions of shooters are sometimes not like their single player versions. He hasn't played much Half-Life before, as you can tell ; ) I think he's mainly played Quake 3 and the original TimeSplitters ; )

Or maybe he just wanted to say "Urrhhhhh, [stab at Nintendo]".

Either way, he is an idiot.

What a thoroughly unpleasant chap you are, dk. May you one day find a dog turd hidden within your pie.

To import or not to import... that is the question...
  • Ceatlan #24 6 years ago

This looked decidely Meh to me. I felt that the demo proved to me that you can't do fast paced FPS style gameplay with the controls on the DS (or the PSP before I start any flame wars). The slower paced exploratory parts worked well, but as soon as it became a twitch fest of shooting at fast moving targets the whole thing fell apart.

Oh Well, heres hoping the single player game is more of the former and less of the latter.

I am soooo impressed with this. Looks dang good.
@Ceatalan: What? It´s nearly mouslook accuracy and speed. Maybe it´s a marmite thing but I love it.

Why can't you have a FPS Multiplayer mode in Metroid? Why can't you have a pinball title based on Metroid?

I supposed Mario Kart should never have been invented either? Should have just stuck to 2d Platforming - that way we never would have had Super Mario 64.

If the game proves to be shit it'll be shit based on its own merits - or lack of them - not because its a Metroid game.

"I found a twat in a forum once."

Only once, sweet lord you've been fortunate. ;)
  • dk_rare #28 6 years ago

I once found a fiver in a bush. I ate well that night.

The difference between you and me, Blerk, is that you actually CARE what other people here think of you.
  • matrim83 #29 6 years ago

Guys I hate to nag but can we have a comments section in the videos. Pretty please with cherry on top.

Holy crap some real awesomness there. How the hell does it look so good. You could be playing Quake 3 on the DS next.

lol! What on Earth makes you think that?
  • dk_rare #31 6 years ago

The video does look pretty damn cool ^_^
  • Ceatlan #32 6 years ago

@SirScratchalot: It most definitely is a marmite thing then ;-) I hate marmite.

I thought the controls left a lot to be desired when the thing you were aiming at was moving a lot, especially when it was moving off screen. For me it worked as an aiming device or a movement device, but not really very well when you had to try and do both at the same time.
  • dk_rare #33 6 years ago

They were more like first person adventure/atmosphere games with shooting and puzzle elements. I guess anything infirst person and shooting is compared to first person shooters, I "honestly" can't figure out why that comparison would be made.
  • Fozzie_bear #34 6 years ago

Looks very nice for the DS. Won't be bothering with it though because i was rubbish at MP1 and that control system on the demo version was just too much for a man of my advancing years :(
  • Dr_Grim #35 6 years ago

it looks good, i woudn't mind if it was just deathmatch style to be honest, as the demo was decent and the controls were sound for me, but due to the amount of time in the making, the single player should be excellent, and the online looks great. i found five punds in my pocket once at school and it was pulled out of the wash that morning how strange

'Guys I hate to nag but can we have a comments section in the videos. Pretty please with cherry on top.'

There is? I was looking for one but can't find a comment section in EG TV! Please point it out.
  • ProfessorLesser #37 6 years ago

    Blerk - good man.

    dk_rare - you are wrong.
  • murderslim #38 6 years ago

The interview I saw with one of the game's producers, stated that the one player game, in length is just shy of Echoes. He also said every line of code has been rewritten since the original demo.
  • dk_rare #39 6 years ago

See, "good man" ; ) Like a little school boy sucking up, lol

I grow weary of this thread, I shall post on this thread no more. That's right, I am handing you the last word on a silver platter. Say what you like as I wont be here to say owt about it.

  • matrim83 #40 6 years ago

@Toonster That comments was aimed at the people in charge to make a comments section for EG TV. Thought it was rather obvious.
  • Tonka #41 6 years ago

I think that the reasoning behind the "intense multiplayer death match action" is to get some new users hooked on the DS. Not all kids have the refined tastes as someone who have played videogames since the dawn of time. So throw them an FPS, give them the option to trash talk and let them revel in their owned glory.

It's a pity that it might come at the cost of a much loved (and so far nicely handled) franchise such as Metroid. But untill I have read a review of the game I wont cry sacrilege.
  • Toonster #42 6 years ago

    @matrim83

Yeah, sorry, I misread your comment. I read it as 'we have a comments section' instead of 'can we have a comments section'.
