Gothic 3 dated

'When it's done' translated.

JoWooD has announced, with no small amount of modesty, that it has "the answer to all your prayers", assuming you're a Gothic fan: Gothic 3 is due out in September 2006.

Apparently this is an improvement on "when it's done", although some reports suggest that it's a bit of a slip. Either way, it's due in September now, alright?

Gothic 3 introduces a new graphics engine to developer Piranha Byte's RPG series, as well as a new combat system and non-linear levels, and continues to offer all sorts of side quests and the like. The plot this time concerns you and your friends' fight across the mainland of Myrtana, having spent the first two games fighting from prisoner to hero of Khorinis (apparently - like I'd know).

"The situation is desperate: The orcs have beaten King Rhobar's troops and are ruling the most important parts of Myrtana, enslaving the human population. Only the tricky inhabitants of the south and the wild barbarians of the icy north are holding against the orcish domination," says the lit.

"And there are rebels, lurking around in the shadows of Myrtana's forests and trying to fight a hit and run guerilla war. It's your choice if you want to join them or the orcs - but whatever you do, the destiny of Myrtana will depend on you!"

In September 2006.

It's not my intention to start a debate on this, but I'd love them to do a console version

I loved Gothic but buying a PC that could run this is not on my list for this year :-(

I agree. I loved Gothic 1 and 2 to bits, but don't really play PC games anymore.

Gothic 2 was so AWESOME, I will have to get this.

And if you like RPG's then you kind of need a PC for them....

Hmmm, not sure I agree there. But I really don't want this thread to become another Consoles vc PC shitstorm, so lets agree to disagree ;)

    That is too far away.;_;

Hooray, now, what's the likeliness that Germany will get it about three months before we do? ;)

    Looking forward to it.

There are rumours that PiranhaBytes/JoWood have been offered a 7-digit sum for the license to make an Xbox 360 version.

Good, that might finally mean they can start making some money, I'm surprised they haven't been offered a project on some MMORPG or something.

Do you have to play the first game to understand/play the second game? It seems the first game is quite hard to find.. (in my regular stores anyways).

I've had these games on my play-some-day-in-the-future list but haven't gotten around to it yet.

You absolutely don't need to, but it helps, apart from the fact that it rocks (though looks dated now). As far as I know, the English version of Gothic I is getting (or has just gotten) a low budget rerelease. They just (re)published the English demo of Gothic 1 a week ago or so, too. Available at all the usual places.

Just a word of caution, the controls of the first Gothic can be hard to master at first. The general view is controlled with the mouse but you attack people/monsters or open chests with a forward push or something, I can't really remember, but it's weird. It only takes about an hour or so to properly master and when I replayed it not long ago I still had the skill, so it's not too much of a problem. What I'm saying is don't let the slightly shonky controls put you off prematurely, there's a great game hiding underneath the rock hard early exterior, it does look a bit dated though, as Lou said.

    Ditto. Ditto.

Can't wait for this game! Loved the first 2.

I'm buying a new PC especially for Oblivion and this. Whether or not i'll have finished Obvlivion though by the time G3 comes out is another matter entirely.

You're a man after my own heart. You're also better paid than I am :-)

Lots of entirely justified Gothic love here! Well done! :)
