MotorStorm 2 demo before launch

Game to be locked at 30fps in 720p.

Evolution Studios plans to release a playable demo of MotorStorm Pacific Rift prior to the game's launch in autumn.

"Yes, there'll be a downloadable demo on the PSN Store before launch," Evolution creative director Paul Hollywood told Eurogamer at Sony's PlayStation Day event last night.

Asked to elaborate, he said: "Autumn 2008 is when we're coming out. I don't know the date or what we're going to do with the demo - that'll be forthcoming."

Hollywood also explained that by the time the game launched, it would be locked at 30 frames-per-second in 720p, which wasn't the case with the 40 percent complete, pre-alpha code on display at PlayStation Day.

We'll bring you the rest of our chat with Paul Hollywood and a hands-on report for MotorStorm Pacific Rift soon.

In the meantime, check out the first MotorStorm Pacific Rift screenshots.

    'Locked' = VSync too?
  • squarepusher #3 4 years ago

    wow a whole 30 fps???

I love arcade racers but the first game was very poor.
  • Beano #4 4 years ago

No... the first game was fun but slightly flawed (annoying menues, slow car-selection and no split-screen).
  • squarepusher #5 4 years ago

Not to mention terrible rubber band AI, gameplay which consisted of bouncing off one surface to the next hoping you don't crash or fly down a cliff. Wank vechile selection and music, eugh, basically the whole ambience of the game was wrong or just hadn't been added. If I remember there was an option to watch a virtual music festival through the menu. What the fuck and why?

It was feature light, under developed piss.

Arcade racers are suppossed to be 60fps, skill orientated and gorgeous (art/bells and whistles). Doesn't sound like Motorstorm to me.
  • ElasticTangent #6 4 years ago

I'm OK with 30 fps and 720p as long as there is NO slow down whatsoever.
  • dominalien #7 4 years ago

The first Motorstorm was an excellent game. This one looks a lot more colourful.

It is a arcade racer which actually takes skill to master and learn which routes to take for each vehicle type - a bit like Waverace on N64 in many ways. Obviously yoiu didn't give it a chance. Shame.

The first game also ran at 30fps so I can easily live with the same in the sequel if it's smooth and without tearing :)

@djronz: Call me a pretentious hardcore gamer... but motorstorm was a major letdown. Not even close to enough content and some seriously flawed aspects to it.
  • IronGiant #10 4 years ago

Motorstorm is excellent, use the bonnet cam with surround sound up high and it's a real blast! Love the soundtrack, any game with Pendulum and Curve in is fine by me :) Cant wait for the sequel, personally im pleased they're going for 720p and 30fps, this means it should be rock solid and very polished.

As for squarepusher, he obviously knows best unlike the majority of the gaming press!!
  • tonynibbles #11 4 years ago

    This game will kick arse.
  • Psiloc #12 4 years ago

Only one thing stopped Motorstorm from being awesome for me and that was the rubber banding. Way, way too unforgiving.

I actually quite liked the ambience. In fact it was one of the things I liked most about it.
  • alimokrane #13 4 years ago

Is that considered an achievement ? 30fps at 720p ??????
  • Altrezia #14 4 years ago

    I agree with Psiloc.

MotorStorm was great - even my wife liked it. Real shame that the AI was so pants that I couldnt be bothered to finish it. Would never say it was a bad game though.
  • squarepusher #15 4 years ago

I gave it a chance. It wasn't very good. This skill you speak of? Does it include factoring in how best to beat the rubber band AI?

Of course pretentious, of course, yeah it was good apart from all the stuff I and Beano mentioned which is enough to ruin other games but apparently motorstorm ftw.

@IronGiant: Just lol. Pendulum and Motorstorm are obviously a match made in mediocre heaven.
  • chrisjm #16 4 years ago

    30fps power of teh cell11111!!
  • des #17 4 years ago

    @alimokrane

Well lately it is, considering the attack of sub-720p games on ps3:MGO,Gta 4,Haze

But if they would drop the rez a little for 60fps...
  • Beano #18 4 years ago

    "Is that considered an achievement ? 30fps at 720p ?????? "

Nope... just the same Bizzarre said before PGR3/4.. "locked at 30fps". I quess only developers of PS3 games are not allowed to specify that. Gee!
  • Beano #19 4 years ago

@des : Is Haze running in sub-720p resolution - source?

If it is, it's hiding it VERY well and far from the jag-fest of GTA4 (PS3), Halo 3, COD4, etc.
  • des #20 4 years ago

    @Beano

    Beyond3d-1024x576 no aa
  • monkie_king #21 4 years ago

Blimey, that's getting down to Wii-resolution.

edit: actually, PAL is 576 lines in SD, isn't it? Interlaced, of course.

Motorstorm was an excellent game. It still sits in my collection because I know if picked it out today it would still be an awesome experience. Alot people complain about and with good reason. The initial learning curve is pitched so high that it becomes a testing experience and the rubber banding can cause frustrating difficulty spikes that grate away at your patience. These flaws leave many on these pages divided. That's fair. I've played the game to death so I can understand. It has to said these flaws are minor blemishes on a quality experience and if you didn't have the patience then you missed out. Hopefully, with this sequel they can rectify those issues so you enjoy what the game had to offer.
  • Beano #23 4 years ago

@des: I seriously doubt that - haven't spotted any jaggies in it (compared to games like GTA4, Halo 3, COD4). Looks closer to full 720p to me.

    1024x576 is just PAL resolution...

    Link?

Yet another PS3 game not in full HD or 60FPS, how embarrasing.

  • Beano #26 4 years ago

    "Post 812 "

And who is he and what's the source for the claim?

I seriously doubt Haze only 576p... it would have massive jaggies which it doesn't have. Have you even seen it?
  • Rash' #27 4 years ago

His probably referencing Quaz51 as he outted GTA4 (PS3) and Halo 3 resolutions.
  • Aretak #28 4 years ago

"I seriously doubt Haze only 576p... it would have massive jaggies which it doesn't have. Have you even seen it? "

des is a troll who appears in every PS3-related comments thread. Don't take him seriously.
  • des #29 4 years ago

    @Beano

He is the "pixel counter" it started with halo 3 and so on...
Eurogamer consults with him also,he is reliable

There are many ways to fight "jaggies"(selective edge blurring, low contrast colors aka shades of gray....),hardware aa is just one of them(but it costs).
Basically its unsolved problem in computer graphics

Dude.. if this guy on beyond3D claims 576p it almost certainly is 576p. He is pretty famous for this (and alway right ;)
  • Xerx3s #32 4 years ago

The first one was quite entertaining imo. :/
  • Cloudane #33 4 years ago

The first MotorStorm was enjoyable up until you reach the majority of the Class 3 and most if not all Class 4 tickets since the AI became ruthless and - at times - unfair.

I am very pleased that split-screen multi-player is available and there will be twice as many tracks as the original; playing £3.99 or however much it cost to download an additional track isn't my idea of fun - I paid £34.99 for the full game and I at least expect some free content.
  • septimus #34 4 years ago

"Is that considered an achievement ? 30fps at 720p ??????"

No that is 3u60gamer picking out the part that is important to them... as soon as they dump the euro bit and just change to 360gamer, stop reporting on anything but 360 (in a positive light at least) the better. At least we know what we are going to get when we come here.
  • Widge #35 4 years ago

Bar the loading, Motorstorm was just pure arcade fun... good to see this one rolling on!
I love off roaders rather than circuit racers.

Interesting about Haze, I have 720p unticked in my menu and it defaulted to 576p on my TV for some reason (its done this before with the likes of Oblivion too).... will check it and see if there is visible difference at 720p.
  • Beano #36 4 years ago

@des : Ok... I'm REALLY amazed how good it looks then :)

On paper games like GTA4, Halo 3 and COD4 should look better (reg. jaggies) since they use a higher resolution framebuffer, but they don't. Maybe I've just been playing to much GTA4 on PS3 and has gone "jaggie-blind" ;)
  • bad09 #37 4 years ago

"only pretensious 'hard core' gamers think motorstorm was crap"

Rubbish!! The game was average and fun but nothing special, You could say I'm hardcore but the people who played it with me certainly are not and guess what, they thought it was crap.
  • Madlax #38 4 years ago

Whats is it with Microsoft trolls hanging around every PS3 article ?

Last time i checked, Gears, halo 3, GTA IV and ME were all barely 30fps (and sometimes lower). why must there be a fuss about it ? ;)

  • bad09 #39 4 years ago

    @ Madlax

Whats is it with you calling everyone Microsoft trolls on every thread.....
  • Zander #40 4 years ago

  • smelly #42 4 years ago

    >i want 1080p graphics

At anything approaching a decent framerate? wish on.

Especially as you wont notice the difference unless you've got something like a 100" tv.

As for all these kids moaning about the 30fps or 720p..

Show me a decent 360 racer running at 60fps at 720p...
  • smelly #43 4 years ago

"Last time i checked, Gears, halo 3, GTA IV and ME were all barely 30fps (and sometimes lower). why must there be a fuss about it ? ;) "

Not that halo even ran at 720p either..
  • ElNino9 #44 4 years ago

Forza 2, best looking, best playing console racer available at the moment. Next question?

    *Cough*

Gran Turismo is miles better looking than Forza imo, and I have both.
