More Dead Space: Extraction details

Flamethrower's back, two chars, more.

EA Redwood Shores boss Glen Schofield has said that Dead Space: Extraction takes place about three weeks before the original and that the first game's protagonist Isaac Clarke doesn't even feature.

"It's a prequel. It actually takes place about three weeks before Isaac gets to the Ishimura," Schofield told Gametrailers TV. "Isaac's not even in the game at all."

Schofield also reiterated that you play as a woman in the on-rails first-person shooter spin-off, and said there are "a couple of people you'll be playing in the game", which makes sense given the previous promise of co-operative multiplayer.

In terms of the setting, "You actually start off on the planet," and then later visit the Ishimura when it's inhabited prior to things going bump. When asked if the game ends as Clarke's ship arrives at the Ishimura, Schofield joked, "You're pretty good!"

Otherwise, the main thing of note is news about weapons. "The flamethrower's back, we've got a couple of different pistols you'll be using... There's one or two I really don't want to get into right now."

EA has previously said to expect more weapons (check), enemies, characters (check) and puzzles, so we're getting there. Extraction is due out towards the end of the year.

Great game Deadspace, particularly when played with surround headphones. For me, it succeeded in achieving all the things Doom3 attempted to do. I actually enjoyed D3, but it was undeniably a disappointment.

The DLC, however, is second only to horse armour in the pointless rip off stakes.

Can't wait for this game. I really enjoyed the whole Dead Space experience so more of the story in game format is more than welcome.

once again eurogamer completely ignores mention of the pc version yet again, i've been letting stuff like this slide for months, if they don't sort this shit out i for one am gonna get my news from a more relevant website that doesn't completely ignore my platform of choice.

i was referring to 'Check out our review of Dead Space for PS3 and Xbox 360' it's a small thing but when combined with the complete absence of pc versions of most up and coming games being reported on or in their database, their agenda is clear.

I wonder if this connects in any way with the Dead Space anime film (which is definitely worth a rental).

There's an animated movie called Dead Space: Downfall which is set in the weeks before Isaac arrives and has a lead female character so it sounds like this is just a straight copy of that.

Rail shooter? Like House of the Dead?

The flamethrower = worst weapon in the game! Trying to get the 30 kills achievement took forever! Amazing game though!

On rails? No, we're not allowed to say that around EA people. It's Guided Camera, OK?

Yeah, the flamethrower was very underpowered. As someone pointed out in another thread some time ago, they should have made a trophy of "finish the game using only the flamethrower" instead of with the plasma gun (which was pretty easy playing the game for the third time for me) for a truly impossible "experience".

You've just described pretty much every fps game?

Besides from what i understand it's as "on rails" as something like the corridor sections of any fps game is (i.e. you have control of your movement, but you're on a set path)

I love DS but on rails sadly won't convince me to buy another Wii.

  • gudnikristinn #16 3 years ago

I find it kinda strange how some people are like ; oh man not another rail shooter when the Wii only has like 2-3 other good ones(and then a few crappy ones not worth buying). And the other systems have none.
But yet itīs cool to just go back to playing FPS number one hundred and something on the 360.

And donīt tell me that rail shooters donīt have any appeal because the Umbrella chronicles and the House of the dead games sell over a million.
