Moore: No word on new SSX

Would need to "make it relevant".

EA Sports boss Peter Moore has told Eurogamer that there are no current plans to resurrect the SSX series of snowboarding games.

Moore was speaking to Eurogamer at E3 in a wide-ranging and slightly bonkers interview that also touched upon Andrew Wilson's golf skills at the Sony conference, Kirby's Epic Yarn and one of our readers' use of the word "milk".

"SSX is a fabulous piece of intellectual property. You never say never, but there's nothing to say right now," Moore told Eurogamer.

When asked what kind of approach EA might take were the publisher to look at restoring the series, which debuted on PlayStation 2, Moore indicated that it would not be enough simply to approach it with the same ideas in mind.

"Well, everybody talks about Tricky," he said. "I think we'd have to look at how you bring back SSX's snowboarding mechanic and make it relevant.

"It's been a number of years, some people may not even have played an SSX game. You've got to look at the current marketplace and Shaun White coming back again."

EA Sports' last SSX title was the disappointing SSX Blur on Wii.

Check out our recent SSX 3 retrospective if you fancy taking a look back at one of the series' brighter moments.

Meanwhile, you can check out the full Peter Moore interview elsewhere on the site.

Why not do a quick SSX Tricky HD or something for PSN/Xbox Live and see how well it sells.
  • menage #2 2 years ago

Hey Moore, it is relevant cause all other snowboard games suck balls.

Jeez really. Since when are games like need for Speed and putting out a new Madden, FiFa, NBA relevant when they could just as well update the roster, and this canīt be updated??? Get real.

Theyīre just afraid they canīt make a better one I suppose. Or not making enough money. Tricky and 3 were awesome but On Tour threw that out of the window with its fake attitude, boring structure and metal image.

How about a SSX collection then. 3 games, HD, I'd settle.

Can't believe this isn't even in the planning stages. Should be a no brainer. I recently picked up second hand copies of Tricky and SSX 3, and they're both still incredibly playable. Controls work a treat and the track design is genius.

I'd certainly go for a HD makeover, but dammit, I want a true sequel. :)

After the EG article I got SSX 3 and Tricky for cheap on Ebay.
Hurray for cheap PS2 games! :)

FFS Moore. We don't always need you to reinvent the wheel - same controls, new music, new tracks = happy Doctor. It's not that hard.

You'll release American Football and Basketball games in England but a snowboarding game isn't relevant? Good grief.

I can't see how they wouldn't make money out of SSX, even if it wasn't a brand new next-gen version.
As others have suggested, an HD collection or even just an HD Tricky (I prefer SSX3 personally) would secure my cash in a heartbeat.
Mentioning Shaun White is irrelevant imo. I'm not a snowboarding afficionado so am not interested in that little Muppet (he is an *actual* Muppet right?).
But SSX is an amazing franchise that deserves some kind of treatment.

I agree, SSX was bascially a racing, kart, rollercoaster in the snow. How can you not update that wiuth new tech.

I found SSX Blur to be a lot of fun and I'd really like to see a new SSX game :(

oh no, I smell shonky peripheral.

Put Tricky on XBLA with live leaderboards and I'll buy it.

Yeah what a stupid dick. Take one of the original games, give it a HD makeover.

And as menage aptly put it, it is relevant as all other snowboard games suck balls.

They truly are stupid. I've been wondering why they haven't made one ever since I got a PS3. My wife too.

I miss Tokyo Megaplex...best track in any game ever.

For me, not having a 'next gen' ssx game is perhaps the biggest missed opputunities of this generation of gaming. hd mountains always look good, snow looks good, scope for better physics, better lightning. gah.

ssx tricky/ 3 had not only critical acclaim, loads of sales, but also seriously loved by quite a lot of gamers. the ps1 had tony hawks 2, ps2 had tricky/3, and nothing at all (apart from maybe pure which i really liked) as come to close this generation. surely it a no brainer to start planning one.

Hehehe I don't usually post at all, but Erm I can 100% confirm a new SSX, let's just say I did a very interesting Market research recently......;) believe me when i say rounding believe your fucking eyes! Forget what you know about SSX seriously everything.....
  • Vixremento #15 2 years ago

I like the first commenters suggestion - I'd buy an SSX Tricky + SSX 3 HD (hell it doesn't even need to be HD) as long it friekin ran on my PS3 (if the original PS2 versions worked then I'd just keep my mouth shut about this...and not I'm not buying a PS2 again).
SSX > Shaun White. In fact SSX > Need for speed!
  • Bumbuliuz #16 2 years ago

What do I need to do for them to make a new SSX game? Send them my money beforehand? Iīd be glad to. Mr. Moore if I could just have your adress, then Iīll just pop out to the post office.
